This book was sent to me as a present by my brother who lives in the US. When I visited recently, he mentioned that he thought I would love it due to the fact that I love animals...and dogs in particular. Here's what I thought:
All Creatures Great & Small is simply the most wonderful book I've ever read. It encompasses every emotion possible to man, or woman in my case :) including sadness, joy, anger/frustration, laughter and many others. It is beautifully written and easy to get hooked so you can't put it down.
James Herriot must have been a truly wonderful person. His humanity and beautiful caring nature really show in his writing.
In this, the first of his books, he was a newly qualified vet who came down from Scotland to a new job in Yorkshire and had to become naturalised in the ways of the Yorkshire Dales folk...which was vastly different from anything he'd ever known before. He tells of various call-outs to tend to sick animals and he makes you feel that you were almost a part of the story.
I have just ordered all of his other books and can't wait to read them.
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
