 Really addictive!

Glow is addictive. Incredibly addictive in that way that all you can think about all day is what is going to happen next. Every chapter is ended in a way that makes you unable to stop or even put it down for a second. The book follows Waverly and Kieran who are some of the first children born in space. They live on a spaceship called the Empyrean and are travelling to a New Earth because Earth is dying. On the night that Kieran proposes to Waverly their ship is attacked and they are separated. I have got to say that I was surprised at how dark the themes were at a few points in the book. There was complete isolation. There were bodies violated and there were people drugged. But it showed the desperate lengths that humanity will go to so that they can protect themselves.
I wish that there was a little more on the romance between Waverly and Kieran. I almost got the impression that they were together because that was expected of them but maybe their relationship will get deeper in further books (this is just the first book in the Sky Chasers series).
Overall, I really loved this book. The darker themes at some points mean I would not recommend this to anyone under the age of 12/13, but for anyone else I suggest trying it. I found it an awesome read, just be prepared to do nothing else for the following day!

Before I begin this review, can I just point out the beauty of the cover! I mean, the female on the front, and the male on the back are beautiful. The stars are perfect as well, very pretty - just very girly. I spoke about my opinions of the cover in Cover Wars (link here) so you can check them out, this allows me to move onto my opinions of the book!
Firstly Waverly, aged 15, is the oldest female child on the ship. She is also going out with the oldest male child, Kieran Alden, aged 16. They are the two oldest children on the Empyrean and everything is okay, until Kieran proposed to her. Things started to change there and then, and Waverly's destiny came into focus - to have children. When you're living on a space ship, heading towards a new planet to populate and live on since your old planet is dying, your purpose is to have children, and keep the human kind alive. But being proposed to at 15? Well, that's too much for any female, I'm sure.
Secondly, can you imagine being separated from your family and any and all male companions at 15 and younger? I certainly can't so reading as the girls were torn away from their families was heart breaking. Amy definitely got my emotions stirred. I felt sorry for the characters, more so because from the start I didn't believe Anne Mather. Though I still don't know how I feel about Captain Jones.. Amy Kathleen made me change my mind about many of these characters many times during this book, occasionally I was even on Anne Mather's side! I feel horrible about that now.
The actual story lines were interesting. I must say I enjoyed Kieran's story line a lot more, but that's because they had no adults, the boys were alone. When they finally got the adults back, they were left alone again when they died. So really, it was really these boys alone, throughout most of the book. I felt sorry for Seth, and I quite like him still, so I'll be interested to see where Seth goes in the next book. I have a thing for liking the bad guys, and my eyes Seth is definitely a bad guy!
At some points in this book, it could have been considered a little dark, so I think it's definitely a book for teenagers (13+) but then again, if kids under 13 are reading Darren Shan (and they are!) then they can read Glow without having nightmares.
