4 Nothing really new, but it is well doneCrashlander | 30/11/2008 | See all Crashlander's reviews (3)I enjoyed this read, and perhaps my opinion is a little jaded (I've read a LOT of fantasy over the years) but I just found that there seemed to be "nothing new" as such. I admit Fantasy is a genre which has not changed the rules really for over 100 years, so I think most books come down to how good a writer the author is. Fortunately Gail Z. Martin is a good steady writer with an easily readable prose that won't leave you mentally tired. The story is lively with good believeable characters and a suitabley dislikeable bad guy. In all its an above average read that any true fantasy fan should dip into.Get it if: You like fantasy a bit easier to read than say "Lord of the Rings", but still with a story that will pull you in.Don't get it if: You're expecting something new and innovative, you're a hardcore fantasy fan who likes lots of plot weaving and twisting turns.
