If you're not a angst ridden teenager, then this book really isn't for you.
Poorly written and the general idea for the vampires is laughable.
I read this after reading a lot of reviewsthat said this was fantastic, and to disagree with other reviews - this is a kids book. Considering the characters are supposed to be 17 / 18 the conversation is like listening to a bunch of 13 year olds - absolutely pathetic.
I also didn't find it romantic - our hero of the book Edward is a moody, grumpy pain who constantly blows hot and cold with Bella to the point where you just can't understand why she is even interested in him. If a guy treated most women like this he would get dumped!!!! As for the character of Bella herself, clingy, obsessed and a little pathetic. For a character who is supposed to be quite a gutsy girl I just found her a little bit disturbing. How in God's name are we supposed to take her seriously when all she says to Edward is "don't ever leave me", "promise me you will always be with me" - I mean for God's sake they are 17 years old. You know what love, get through school go to university, get a good job and meet other people, then you might realise there is more to life than a miserable self obsessed family of vampires!!
Hated this it is awful and the other books in the series which I did read hoping they would get better - even worse. Don't waste your money unless you are 14 years old in which case this book is probably great. If you are an adult and want good books about vampires and romance, read Anne Rice instead!
I really do not see what is so special about this book!
Very unoriginal, the characters are not realistic in the slightest and half the book is refering to how 'amazingly perfect' Edward is.
Overall, a huge disappointment.
This book is an atrocity and my retina's are permanently scarred for reading this garbage
DO NOT BUY UTTER TRASH
If you tend to like your books to have a romantic side, but with a twist then this book is definately for you. You feel you can relate to the main character, Bella, with her clumsiness and not being absolutely beautiful. However, be warned, after you have come across Edward Cullen your male expectations will rise beyond anything you have felt previously.
Happy Reading :)
EVERYONE goes on about the "Twilight Fad" and i was more than dissapointed after reading the first book.
It's a simple style, easy to read, marketed for young adults, if you want to read something quick and easy that doesn't require much brain power, this book is for you.
However, if you're a wide reader, you will find even JK Rowling's books better than this, and you will join me in the abhorrence of anyone that refers to this as "Literature".
basically - if you're not much of a reader and looking for a simple read with a basic storyline, buy away. if you like to read and you're looking for a good gripping book, steer clear.
This book is absolutely charming and impossible to put down, you will fall instantly in love with Edward, and with his relationship with Bella, whose character is also fantastic, and as the book is written in the voice of Bella it makes it even more enchanting and believable. As an extremely incompetent reader who hasn't actually read a whole book ever, this book made me able to read better and actually enjoy literature, and even buy the other three books in the Twilight series. I chose to read twilight after watching the film, but the book is soooo much better if u loved the film, or if your simply a girl or even a boy that appreciates romance and loves vampires this book is defiantly for you, so enjoy and prepare to be mesmerised! x x x
Having heard all the hipe I decided I needed to read this, as a young male reader, I'm not the target auidence. I really enjoyed this beautifully written, gripping, unputdownable. It's just a shame not alot happens! I will read the next book, as I think this is a starter for a great series, I just hope the second book keeps me interested.
If you've read Anne Rice you will most definitely be disappointed by this book. Meyer takes Anne Rice's brilliantly original concept of a vampire, adds in some frankly unvampiric characteristics, like living in sunlight, the aversion to sunlight being a pretty defining characteristic of a vampire, and throws it into a 14 year old girls fantasay. What really put me of the book was how shallow and unoriginal it was.
I beg you, do not listen to the emo fangirls who make up 80% (or more) of the reviewers of this book. 'Twilight' is not a bad book by a long shot. But it does not, however, stand out in any way, shape or form. Shakespeare this is not. But if you are looking for a quick, throwaway read (and don't mind a bit of romantic nonsense), this can be found enjoyable. If there is a choice between this and something staggering like Stephen King or George R. R. Martin, always choose the latter. If you ever have some spare time on your hands, however, you could do much worse.
