The second volume of A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. GAME OF THRONES is now a major TV series from HBO, featuring a stellar cast. Throughout Westeros, the cold winds are rising. From the ancient citadel of Dragonstone to the forbidding lands of Winterfell, chaos reigns as pretenders to the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms stake their claims through tempest, turmoil and war. As a prophecy of doom cuts across the sky - a comet the colour of blood and flame - five factions struggle for control of a divided land. Brother plots against brother and the dead rise to walk in the night. Against a backdrop of incest, fratricide, alchemy and murder, the price of glory is measured in blood.

The 2nd Book in the 'The Song of Ice and Fire' Series. The 1st book sets the scene in the 7 Kingdoms with challengers to the throne. A Clash of Kings is what it says and is an awesome read, developing characters and interweaving their paths intelligently.

I have just finished reading the 4th Book (Storm of Swords: Blood & Gold) and I am absolutely hooked. They really do get so gripping, I am scoring this 5 stars because they are all equally excellent, but now so much has happened it is captivating to read on.

Hopefully one day this series will be finished and made into a film epic like Lord of the Rings. I may implode if that happens because it is simply awesome.

Why did I not buy these books sooner!?

The second title in 'A song of ice and fire' and another great. At no point in this book have i been bored or destracted, they are just so enthralling and you can't help but want more. Strongly recommended.

The pace lessens somewhat, but the twists keep coming

After the events of the 1st book, naturally everyone of it's characters needs to take a short break, this happens as we re-introduce ourselves back into the world, Eddard Stark is dead, his son is king in the north, and many relations of the also lost King Robert vie for the southern throne, and control of the seven seas, this is the novel where the focus starts to come a little less off the starks and more onto the lannisters, a bold approach but it largely succedes, as the starks try to re-build and the lannisters begin to take control of matters (i'm sure the Baratheon's might have something to say though about this) this novel mainly is a building block for the coming 2 part storm of swords and a lot of the characters seem to be travelling and the author is building their characters up with this, strong addition but the next 2 novels will pick up the pace greatly

A clash of kings - A dash of great things....
