Narrated by a 15-year-old autistic savant obsessed with Sherlock Holmes, this dazzling novel weaves together an old-fashioned mystery, a contemporary coming-of-age story, and a fascinating excursion into a mind incapable of processing emotions.

 Mind Altering

I picked this book up before I went on holiday this year and almost didn't read it. I'm so glad I did! I started it at 8.30 in the evening and only stopped reading it at 1.30 in the morning when I had completed it!! I just couldn't stop reading it. I have never read anything quite like this before and the author has a real gift in being able to tell the story in the way that he did. It really blew my mind away in parts - not that there's much to blow away I'll admit - and I was baffled at how much research was needed for some of the diagrams etc. This is a real gem of a book well worth the time!

 Extremely good read

Extremely good read... This book is a unique insight into Asperger's syndrome... There is a clear plot apparent from the first page with a twist... Obviously it is just the tip of the iceburg for understanding the complexity yet simplicty of Asperger's... Funny yet touching.

I was recommended this read by my GCSE maths teacher a few years ago. He spent a while telling the class about it and he really sold it to me.

When I came to read the book I was not disappointed. I never knew much about Autism, or Aspergers. This book is a complete eye-opener; narrated from the point of view of the young boy who is the sufferer it paints a clear picture of what exactly Aspergers is, and is very easy to digest.
It is one of those books that you cannot put down and simultaneously do not want to finish. Once I had finished it, I couldn't start another for a while, I just wanted to keep its taste in my mouth a little bit longer!

A very insightful, vicarious read.

 Short but compelling read

I brought this book offhand not expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised because this book is brilliant. The curious incident of a dog in the night-time is a compelling and insightful look into the world of a boy with Asperger syndrome. The story is told in first person narration taking you on a personal journey, full of twist and turns. The book is moving, funny, bewildering at times and eye opening but most importantly a great read. It's an easy read not a strain on the brain, perfect for a lazy afternoon. I finished it in a couple of hours.

working with young people with Aspergers syndrome, i thoroughly reccomend this book for all people who's life may be affected directly or indirectly by this condition. Haddon paints a realistic and easy to understand insight into the thoughts and feelings of someone with Aspergers. Make sure you allow plenty of time when first opening this book - You will NOT be able to put it down!! Fabulous and a must have read.
