A Feast for Crows (Book 4 of a Song of Ice and Fire): Song of Ice and Fire | Paperback

When i first read this book i didnt get past the fisrt 100 pages. I thought the book was going off the main story line and i did not enjoy it. With the news of the first in this series becoming a HBO tv series i decided to read the books released so far again. This time round i found the book a joy to read. Martin has split this book into two. The second being a Dance of Dragons (yet to be released). Half of the major charactors are not mentioned as their story will run parallel with those of a Feast of Crows in the up coming book. As usual there are plenty of new twists and plots added to this book. from time to time you get a 'stayle' chapter but its worth persuing as they all set the stage for the next plot twist. A great read for any who likes fantasy. I would infact go as far as to say, you do not like fantasy novels until you have read these books!

when i first started to read this book initially i thought whats going on the book seemed to lose the thread of the previous books.It then seltted down to concentrate on a core of charactors and quickly gained my interest and i couldnt put it down. It basically concentrates on the lannisters and there rise to pwer and then there impending doom. It also gives life to an up and coming charactor samwell who is fast becoming a hero.It mentions the wall and the rise of snow and briefly the dragon queen.The previous books are awash with charactors coming in to the story and then being killed off quite quickly. This book is alot more focussed which actually makes it easier to read. I would have given this book 5 stars but the first 50 or so pages lost me slightly. once past that the book started concentrating on known charactors which saved the book.

I think in this novel George R.R thought he needed to take a step back from the main characters and work on some of the secondary plots also, he has introduced new storylines with the Iron Islands and Brienne, both storylines are good but not on a par with the Lannisters or the Starks, their is still a view from the 2 also through Cersai/Jaime and Sansa/Arya, this is where the novel gets better and the plot starts to move along, Jaime's plot is probably the most interesting with him wrestling with who he is and what to do with himself, the next novel should be awesome with the return of Jon and Tyrion but this will tide us over till that arrives

I thoroughly enjoyed the first few books, they were exciting and full of action. But now that the war on the seven kingdoms has sort of come to an end, not much happens.
Over the first few books we built up a relation to the characters, for example I particularly enjoyed Tyrion's chapters, and Jon's. But in A Feast for Crows we are introduced to completely new characters who aren't even given a name.
I start reading it, wondering where Martin is taking it, but I reach the end of the chapter and nothing much has happened to a character that we have never previously read about before. Also all the way through there are constant references to the forthcoming winter, the tension is slowly building around it. But it never seems to come, it's dragged out rather pointlessly. Winters coming, it's a little closer, wait for it, not long now, this will be the last harvest, it's getting colder, it will be here soon, it's getting closer.....and that's the end of the book.
So as I said in the title, it's a bit bland, at least compared to the books predecessors. After the tumultuous excitement, and betrayal, plot twists and edge of your seat reading in the first books I got to this and was slightly dissapointed. Everything just grinds along at a snails pace.

However having said all this Ayra and Jaime's storylines are quite intriguing, they are what really saved the books for me. But towards the end I just felt like I was reading on just so I could get to the next book in the hope that something actually happens.
