The Literary Heritage of the Arabs samples some of the finest literature produced by Arab writers from the Andalusian age to today. The volume concludes with the contemporary era as represented by diverse genres which foreground the struggle for dignity and search for identity and include examples of diasporic writing as well as experiments that display independence of form as well as spirit - that is, the explosion of Arab writing on a global stage.Writers included are Adonis, Fudwa Tuqan, al-Ghazzali, Ibn Arabi, Ibn Battuta, Ibn Khaldun, Kahlil Gibran, Mahmoud Darwish, al-Mutanabbi, Naguib Mahfouz, Nizar Qabbani, Salma al-Khadra al-Jayyusi and Taha Hussein.
