Robert Neville is the last living man on earth ...but he is not alone. Every other man, woman and child on the planet has become a vampire, and they are all hungry for Neville's blood. By day he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive like this?

The film version pales in comparison to the inteligence of this book; the storyline is one of my favourite and the ending makes so much sense given the title.
Very short but worth a day or two to read it.
Not quite legendary

I read this book after the film, I quite liked the film although i'll admit I did'nt think it was a classic, much the same as this book, The character of Robert Neville is much like the recent crop of fantasy writers characters, in that he isn't all good, he is ultimately human, and Richard Matheson shows his human qualities throughout the book with skill and some wit, but 160 pages just isn't enough to convey the fraught nature of his mind to a full extent, and this just does not work for me, being used to hundreds of pages of character development, we don't find out enough about the character, only his situation, technically though the book is sound in it's writing but again the science isn't fully developed, not enough is in this book for me.
Buy this! especially if you've seen the film

I read this after watching the film, the book is so much better. It is only short seeing as there is a limited amount you could write about one character. But i loved it and found myself reading until the early hours. If you have seen the film, definately buy it and see how it should have been. I would recommend this to anyone.
