Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Harry Potter and the Deathly Silence

Well a deathly silence certainly hung over my house at the weekend as I got well and truly 'stuck in' to this book which arrived thanks to Play.com with the nice postlady at 9am.

My poor hubby who is not a Potter fan got short shrift from me whenever he wanted to talk (especially when he asked 'Has Harry done Hermoine yet?').

What a fabulous read - I was hooked from the word go as the body count in the first few chapters left me breathless - little did I know that was nothing compared to what was to come.

There are some ferocious battles and duelling, lots of patronus's to ward off dementors and more death eaters than you can shake a stick at.

If you're looking for happiness then don't read this book as it is tinged with sadness and loss but then saving the world was never easy.

All the loose ends from this saga are tied up nicely and although this was the last book in the HARRY Potter series, suffice it to say there is an opening for more Potter family adventures if J.K. starts missing Hogwarts and the wizarding world too much.

When I was a kid I waited and waited for Christmas and then when it was over always had a flat, deflated feeling. I feel like that now I've read the 7th book - yes we have a few more films in the series yet to see but I'm gonna miss Harry and his pals. Here's hoping a J.K. fan will be inspired by her work to write another great saga that can follow in the footsteps of this series and appeal to young and old alike.

If you're a sceptic like my hubby and have never read a Potter book - I would thoroughly recommend you give it a go

From the very first book i have been hooked on the adventures of Harry Potter. This final installment is just best way Rowling could have ended her series, and although i am disappointed it has ended, i feel all my questions have been answered. Rowling scrapes back ideas and scenes from previous books that you may not have read too much into (excuse the pun). All together, a fantastic read, and what a spin at the end!!

Customer rating: 2 out of 5 stars A major disappointment

After the long wait for this the final book, I must say I was seriously disappointed by it. For the amount of action within the book, it is easily 300 pages to long.

The final battle between the two arch rivals is really short in a blink and you'll miss it.

Was it worth the wait?

No not really, I'd have waited another year to read a book worthy of the finale.

This isn't it.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars The cold reminder this is a child's story in everyway

Fair play to Rowling, she made a lot of money, from something she isn't that good at. By the 7th and final entry of this "epic" tale, most of us will have come to two conclusions. firstly that Harry Potter is indeed a child's story, and so should be viewed only as such. Secondly J.K.Rowling is the most mechanical author in history next to Dan Brown. These are not essentially bad qualities, as Rowling simply makes the most of what limited talent she has, by using a formula in each book. Harry, Ron and Hermione have an argument, make up, save the day by hook or crook, and go back to good old private drive.(ignoring the 10 or so Authors she has stolen every idea she has, coupled with her awful use of middle class stereotypes and pathetic ability to name people (cho chang comes to mind) ). Now thats all well and good when your 13, closed your second book in the series and have heard very little hype about "the boy who lived". Harry Potter has gradually declined into an overwhelming ball of hype, plagerism, and disapointment. there is no need to comment on this last book, as we all knew how it would end, and in a way, we have known since book 3. The series peaked at book 4 which was probably the only book of the 7 that had some original witty writing ( even witht he mechanics). When you take all these elements together, the painfully global histeria of Harry Potter ( not helped by those awful awful movies(thanks daniel)) the steady decline and tedium of the last 3 books and the overall smug of J.K.Rowling when she thinks she has given us a new bible. If your a logically person, it will annoy you to see so many misguided souls feeding Rowlings purse until it bursts for basically scratching out the title worst witch, and writing harry potter. I will give you 3 stars for starting well, but ending it on a low and having no bravery in your work. Ps if T.S.L or Tolkien were here they would have my back unlike all those people who will tarnish my fine argument.

This book was a real struggle to read, written badly, whereby I had to read sections repeatedly, to see if I had understood what was said, and I hope proof readers didnt get paid!

The story itself is much more linear than the previous books, and the ending somewhat predictable!

At least she hasnt left if open for a sequel!

Okay, so I was as many are "glued" to the book, for the time it took me to read it.

It was jam-packed with action the whole way through and there was no lacking in adventure and excitement.
Also, I did not quite expect as many deaths as Rowling had made, however, I feel this was a good way to go through this final book- without them it would have been shallow and less believeable (As far as believeable can go in such a book!)

My one main disappointment however was the final battle between the two enemies. Although the leadup to the battle in my mind was spectacular and gut-wrenching, I will have to agree with other revies in that it was over too quickly and left me feeling like it was a major anticlimax.

However, in this book we get all the answers that some of us (including myself) have been waiting over a decade for. Nothng is left out and Rowling manages to hook many of us- once again- with her fantastic story telling.

I am 16 years old so I should be at the correct age for this book, okay it was originally meant for children but as it developed everyone knows it matured. I must say I was hoping to love this book, to answer the questions of "What's going to happen?" although I think we all knew by the end of the 1st book, but we just needed confirmation and on that purpose only I think that is why people should read this book. I must admit the only reason why I kept on reading through the excruciating pages of complete description, and every other page someone turning red, was to find out the ending, and I'm not like so many others who just skipped to the back page of the book. Shame on you if you did that.

I must say this book is a disappointment as this COULD have been a well worked and enjoyable read, the fact was it wasn't, pages upon pages of nothingness and not even slight humour to keep the pages rolling, I found it exceedingly difficult to want to read on and wasn't surprised when my fried said he had given up reading after the first 20 pages. I think I can speak for everyone when saying the final duel was a complete and utter disappointment. She seems to have taken on the personalities of the film characters rather than the personalities that have been built up in previous books(and before someone says they are the same, they are not when you think of personal interpretation, such as look at Barty Crouch's description compared to his portrait in the film). Also many things in the book don't follow logic, and at times it becomes tricky to follow the plot, such as having to read over several pages. The last chapter was pointless and just left more questions in my mind, the book needed to have all the loose ends tied up, which just doesn't happen.

The general plot was rather dull and predictable, no neat little twists that were prominent in the earlier books such as The Chamber Of Secrets. I think J.K Rowling peaked during the fourth book (although the film version was terrible). Also I think she needed to have a little more backbone in writing this, to those who have read it will understand, those who haven't will find out.

All in all a major disappointment to what could have been
