I adored this book it really is a perfect story! the study of the relationships between people, the divide between the rich and poor is keenly displayed. Afghanistan at the time of the russian invasion is described very well and makes you feel like you are there! Please do not hesitate to read or even buy this book: It is truly a story written in the best tradition of a good novel. And it really deserves all the acclaimed bestseller reviews from all over the world. The reason?
Simple: Because the author succeeds to reveal what means the world to a lot of us: Friendship and knowing/trusting you can rely on your friends. And also what it can do to a person when that knowledge or trust is betrayed, or gets violated. The strength of real 'company' is the red line througthout this book and it is -in one word- simply beautiful.

Oh how I am pleased that my friend recommended this book to me. It is absolutely brilliant. I found that it took a few chapters to really get into it, but once that occurred I just simply couldn't put it down. One of my favourite books. If you are contemplating whether to read the book or see the film first, then I would strongly urge you to read the book first. A must read!

A splendid, thought provoking read! Set in war stricken Afghanistan
1970's. Two young boys Amir, the son of a wealthy business man and Hassan, son of Amir's servant despite of social class laughs, play and compete in the kite fighting tournament . It's always Amir who flies the kite and Hassan is a kite runner, he runs to fetch kites Amir has defeated by cutting their strings for he knows where the kite will land without even seeing it. A story of friendship, betrayal, honour and courage. Sense of hope and redemption in the end.I never wanted to put it down and found myself reading it for hours! Definitely one of the best books I've read. An amazing debut novel for this writer.

Beautifully written from beginning to end, this is a must read for anyone. It's a very sobering read and packs a very gently executed punch. The story tells the journey of change from boyhood through to manhood and from a seemingly idyllic Afghanistan through to the Taliban ruled land of more recent times.

  An amazing novel

I am currently studying this novel at A level. At first i was unsure if it was going to be a novel i would enjoy but having finished it, i think it is a truly amazing piece of writing. its a well thought out, emotional tale of two friends and their journey through life during hard times in their home country. Its a very captivating story and really enjoyable.
if your unsure about reading this, then i strongly recommend you do so, you'll be glad you did.
