Oh how I am pleased that my friend recommended this book to me. It is absolutely brilliant. I found that it took a few chapters to really get into it, but once that occurred I just simply couldn't put it down. One of my favourite books. If you are contemplating whether to read the book or see the film first, then I would strongly urge you to read the book first. A must read!
A splendid, thought provoking read! Set in war stricken Afghanistan
1970's. Two young boys Amir, the son of a wealthy business man and Hassan, son of Amir's servant despite of social class laughs, play and compete in the kite fighting tournament . It's always Amir who flies the kite and Hassan is a kite runner, he runs to fetch kites Amir has defeated by cutting their strings for he knows where the kite will land without even seeing it. A story of friendship, betrayal, honour and courage. Sense of hope and redemption in the end.I never wanted to put it down and found myself reading it for hours! Definitely one of the best books I've read. An amazing debut novel for this writer.
I am currently studying this novel at A level. At first i was unsure if it was going to be a novel i would enjoy but having finished it, i think it is a truly amazing piece of writing. its a well thought out, emotional tale of two friends and their journey through life during hard times in their home country.
