Down and Out in Paris and London was the first of Orwell's work that I read, It is a must read for anyone from all walks of life. As a 20 year old student i didnt think that I would be able to appreciate the story of poverty and sheer desperation that Orwell portrays to us through this book, he perfectly captures the way of life from both sides of the English Channel from his time in Paris as a "polngeur" and his time at the hotel X and onto London where he captures the life and poverty in some of Londons worst doss houses( "Spikes"). Highly Reccomended.
