Best Book I've Read In Years!!

| | See all Bekaroo's reviews (6)

I was 1st in to meet Russell Brand to get this book signed at Lakeside. If you like Russell Brand, you'll love this book. It made me literally cry with laughter! When reading this book it really felt like Russell was sitting beside me reading outloud his troubled life. VERY well written in that sense! Although his life is full of sex, drugs and disturbing childhood memories, it's a good read and rather interesting, I personally found it very difficult to put down, even when falling asleep after reading for many hours straight.

I don't suggest under 18's reading this however, as it's a little bit disturbing at times and very detailed.. I would recommend to anyone above the age of 18 though! I even got a workmate to read the first few pages of 'My Booky Wook' and even he laughed out loud and he despises Russell!

Very entertaining book and a thoroughly good read. Interesting look through a crazy sex obsessed modern day Jack Sparrows life.

  Addictive (the book that is)

This is the first book i have read in years and i thought it was brilliant. Funny, at times cringing, but overall a worthwhile read for fans, even critics may find it insightful.

  very funny, but slightly cringe-worthy

Personally, I found the majority of the book to be hilarious and very witty- Brand has a great turn of phrase, and the book is written in basically the same way as he speaks.

However, despite large portions of the book's hilarity, the rest of it kind of fell on it's face- while Brand has always been self-agrandising, the book puts into perspective the seedier parts of his life and his behaviour does, on occasion, turn the reader's opinion from admiration to disgust- his behaviour as described in the book is obviously written with the intent to impress and shock, however, his opulent behaviour seems less the work of a liberal, progressive comedian (as he appears to wish to be percieved) and more the work of a five year old child having a temper tantrum. Clearly Brand desires attention, and this book and it's contents have gotten him that- however, the book left me feeling less that Brand was a funny, intelligent man, more of a child yelling "LOOK AT ME!" while destroying the front room.

In short- reading "My Booky Wook" left me at times enamoured and at times disgusted with Russell Brand- perhaps the desired result. While I still consider him to be a funny guy, and the book was, by and large, an enjoyable read, I've seriously reconsidered my opinions of him since reading it.

I found this book very hard to put down. It gives a very deep look into russels past and gives a hint as to why he is today. If critics who diss him understood half of the things in this book he went through, they would understand why he is like this.

This is a definate buy for any fan of Russell Brand. The included pictures section is a marvel to look through!

I loved this book, very easy to read, found Russell very funny, I could hear him relating the story in his own words and found it very enjoyable, It's an easy book to pick up and read bits from and leave for a while and pick up again

I couldn't put this day, Russell has a way of telling a tale that just makes you want to read. His anecdotes had me howling with laughter - and this meant being stared at on the bus. He should write more tales for us to enjoy. His relaxed and honest writing style makes this book worth every penny.
