a real manga, meaning: you have to read from right to left, beginning at the back. original and fun to do, once you got acquainted with the technique.
good premise, good story, a mix between fantasy (the world of japanese gods) and reality (the actual world) that leads to a kind of police thriller, cop-comic, whodunit (and really great is that you know the killer but not the cop involved.. quite a turnaround.
this is the first volume in a series of twelve. number 13 is something special and not a comic belonging to the series, but evolving from it.

I unfortunately saw the anime series before I read this book.
Knowing what was going to happen, I still loved and enjoyed this book. If you like Death note or your looking for a good anime to sit back and enjoy this is the series for you : )

  Best Anime ever!

Death Note is the best anime show i've seen so far. First of all I seen the series then watched the live actions and thought why not get the books? The books are beautiful smaller comic books with the story told perfectly on every page. Shame they're about £5 each cause they only last for about a day's reading (if you get into them). A must buy for anime fans

  just plain awsome

Rite here we go i was 1 of those idiots who took no notice of these books cos i thought they were pointless, i was like whats so good about it but o my days this stuff is amazing i physically cant stop reading it it is so amazingly good and leaves you wanting to read more its a shame theres only 12 books but still buy it.

a consistent great read, and a great artist too!!!

Ok i read the first book. First read, i didnt like it. 2 Months later im standing in a shop about to go on a long journey and picked up the next two volumes. I got abolutely hooked!!!!! You would have to have one oversized brain to guess what happes next. The txt just wont move fast enough and you just keep wanting more more more!!!! Then you get to volume twelve and your hitting the breaks. You really dont want this to end. But it has a satisfying ending. So your tears are not so bad.
I bought all 13 books, though the last book is just an informative description of the past twelve volumes. Enthusiast item only. But all twelve actual volumes are re-readable again and again and again! The books say 16+ on the back but really havent got anything that would offend at all. Its just a littlle too complex for younger readers. A great read overall. But i much prefer gantz to this.

  A MUST READ

Once you have grasped the unique japan style of reading this really is 'a must read'

I was quite put off as it wasn't really my thing, but i gave it a go and felt utterly drawn in! it took me two, half-days to read this! i couldn't put it down!

I will be ordering Vol.2 as soon as!

  a good note!

i have always had an interest in manga and anime purly for the fact that the artwork is amazing! i only ever used to read more comedy style manga like cromartie high school but my brother told me about death note so i thought i would give it a go. so i bought the first volume thinking that i could enjoy it but found myself drawn into the story of light and ryuk. a must for anybody who enjoys fantasy style or film noir type stories.

  My first manga

I've been into anime for a while now, and thought I'd give manga a go. Well recently I've been hearing loads about Death Note and thought it looked pretty good (and I've ordered the first volume of the anime), so decided for my first manga, to give it a try.
IT'S BRILLIANT!!
I'm not really in to reading long novels so this was a great alternative. The artwork is amazing, with some of the panels really standing out thanks to tonnes of detail.
I don't really have any problems with the manga, but there was one thing I was surprised about. I expected it to be an actual comic, but it's actually just a small paperback book. Not a bad thing though, I actually prefer it like this:)
Very highly recommended!!

  One of the best.

If you haven't read it yet, you're missing out! I really recommend it to anyone who loves manga. The storyline is gripping and keeps you wondering what might happen next. The art is also beautiful and makes this series one of the most addictive.
