Golding's best-known novel is the story of a group of boys who, after a plane crash, set up a fragile community on a previously uninhabited island. As memories of home recede and the blood from frenzied pig-hunts arouses them, the boys' childish fear turns into something deeper and more primitive.

 aa modern classic!

This book is genius. The plot is simple, but very effective. This book is not for cheap thrills, it is very atmospheric and chilling- I didn't read it for GCSE, another class did, so I decided to read it on holiday and I was gripped until the end.
Definately one of the greats :)
p.s. it does take a little while to build up, but if you are patient (and intelligent enough to understand it)- it is well worth it!

 Surprising

The year is 1941. A group of British schoolboys with ages ranging from 5-12, have crash-landed on a deserted (or so they think) Island. The boys quickly establish themselves and elect a leader. Pretty soon, life as they know it is eradicated, and hell descends. A whirlwind insight into the beasts we could all become, there is murder, treachery and betrayal. An emotional and thrilling rollercaster ride, this book just cries out to be read. If you don't, then a fool you are.

 Not what i expected

Most reviews of this book make the consumer believe that lord of the flies is the most excellent book they have ever laid eyes on. I bought it and I love books so got stuck into reading it. By the 5th chapter, i was wondering when the story would begin to start. It seems the boys do the same thing constantly for the first chapters. Even when it does begin slowly, the 'emotional entertaining' action iv read about, didnt seem what was descibed. I was fighting with myself to keep reading. Also what IS the lord of the flies? Confusing :/ Totally not what i expected, and pretty predictable to be honest. I have to read this for my gcse english, and im dreading it now. Worth a buy jus to read it, but dont get your hopes up [n].

 MODERN CLASSIC

Very good story with very intresting characters. Once you start reading this its pretty hard to put it down. What starts of as a group of young boys having fun and enjoying themselves without the athority of adults on a deserted island soon turns to something much more dark and sinister. 4/5
