This is a very well-written book, with quirky characters and witty words. The narrative is very unique and interesting, giving a whole new spin on the genre. It's easy to read but contains many themes and well worthy of a few hours of your time. Keep it beside you bed and read a chapter or two before you go to bed!

If you do not cry when you get into this book then there is something wrong with you. Much like 'life of pi' this book engulfs you and utterly enthralls... This made me cry on the bus

  Brilliant read.

When I first picked this up the description seemed interesting and it didn't disappoint once I'd read it. I loved this book and could hardly put it down. Zusak has a unique way of writing that's both very honest and thought-provoking and the small facts and points the character of Death includes in the chapters make it more entertaining to read. I will definitely read it again!

I couldn't get into this book at all...

I think myself and some of the other reviewers have very different tastes. I found this novel very easy to put down and difficult to pick up again. I did persevere hoping it would get better but was still dissapointed when I got to the end. The background insight into World War 2 was the only bit I found interesting, I found the storyline and characters very lacking. All in all, an un-gripping (if there is such a word!) book.

When I first started to read the book thief I thought it was a bit odd and it was not the kind of book I like, seeing as I am a great fan of fantasy. However after a few chapters I began to realise that it was a stunning book mixed with fantasy and the harsh reality of World War 2. The characters emotions and reations to most of the situations are true to life. I cried at the end, it is dramatic and not worth spoiling. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a powerful dark book. Or anyone who is interested in World War 2 and would like to view it from a diffrent perspective. Or just someone who like me enjoys fantasy with a slight twist of death beig the narrator and it being set in world war 2. Whoever you are this is a must read.

Simply one of the most amazingly beautiful and gripping books I have ever read. I spent two days sucked into Zusak's world and loved it. Even the tears in my eyes at the end were worth it.

I can only echo the comments of others about The Book Thief, its simply a great story well told. It makes you laugh, cry and think, what more could one want from a book.

This book will break your heart. Don't be put off by the first couple of pages, which are quite strange.
It is beautifully written and make you realise how awful the war was for everyone no matter where they lived. I cried so much at the end but am so glad to have read it. A wonderful read.

The book theif is a great book for any age over 7 I am 10 and read it in 2 weeks although the many pages might put you of when you start reading it you cannot put the book down! I read it with great intrest and I would say to myself stop at the end of this chapter and then I would take a peak and then be so intriged that I would read the rest of that chapter.
It is filled with hope, loss and happiness it will take you mon an adventure that you cannot imagine! It is touching and will leave you on the edge of your seat if you are sitting on one!
Narrated by death or the grim reaper it is a superb book and I have loved it since the very first word to the very last!
