 An exquisite read

If you are buying this item then you are probably new to this excellent series; that has recently been picked up by Hollywood. This is for the grown up reader, the plot weaves through the story like a serpent that strikes when you don't expect it. The characters are as rich as the imagination behind the read. If you like Harry Potter but want something more grown up then this could well be for you.

Warning: The product description says "hardback". But keep your eye on the title. This is the three books in paperback presented as a tasteful boxed set; based on the new Hollywood blockbuster. But still worth the money.

 Shame about the title

I was not sure what to think with all the hype and anti-religion stuff that surrounded the release of the movie, but having found out that my Dad had read the books years ago and enjoyed them decided to give them a go. These are technically childrens books, but dont let that put you off. The ideas, science and relationships in these make you wonder if this was really aimed at parents and not kids. More adult I would say than Harry Potter for example. I took the whole set with me on my holiday, and read them all before I got home..... Fantastic read!
Only 1 small criticism is the 'Golden Compass' name and movie pics on the covers..... I never saw what was wrong with Northern Lights, but I suppose they had to change it after they decided to change the film name.

Nice work pullman i love it but...

I read the whole 3 books and they are simply amazing the imagination that Pullman has is beyond simply writing it's expressing yourself but just one thing its agianst God and when i mean against it says in the book that God diesand the people pf the world want him dead. Now i know some of you say "yes so what big fuss" but children who read it and are not consious of what their reading get brainwashed and get the bad idea. Now i know some people may have different aspects and ideas but believe me its not worth buying the books when you read that people kill God and God with the letters capital. This is the last thing i say true Christians wouldn't see the film if they REALLY believe in God.

 Quite Simply Amazing

This trilogy has had so many editions its hard to keep track. Whatever edition of The Dark Materials you happen to read you will fall in love with. I've read the books twice now and wish I could erase them from my memory so I can re-read them for the 1st time. I've pushed them infront of friends and they all feel the same.

I was so chuffed that they were making a film that I even phoned for an audition to become even more involved. The books really are That good.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
