Danny Cartwright and Spencer Craig were born on different sides of the track. Danny, an East End Cockney, leaves Clement Attlee Comprehensive School at the age of 15 to take up a job at a local garage. He falls in love with Beth, the boss' daughter, and asks her to marry him. Spencer Craig resides in the West End. A graduate of an English public school and Cambridge University. After leaving university he becomes a criminal barrister and is soon tipped to be the youngest Queen's Counsel of his generation. Danny and Beth travel up to the West End to celebrate their engagement. They end the evening in a wine bar where Spencer Craig is also celebrating - his 30th birthday, along with a select group of university chums. Their lives will never be the same again. For, an hour later, one of them is arrested for murder, while the other ends up as the Prosecution's chief witness in an Old Bailey trial.

 What a Masterpiece!!!

I've just finished this new novel from Archer and I am glad to say how great it was. Throughout, I've been on the edge of my seat trying to work out what will happen to the main charcter Danny. The story is full of twists and turns and captures you from the first page. Another masterpiece from the great mind of Jeffrey Archer.

 Not Kane & Abel Again!

If you remember the earlier output of Mr. Archer, Kane & Abel, the often-told tale of the Pauper and the Prince without the look-i-likie element, then you might find this latest work to be in a rather similar vein. The two leading males from very opposite end of the social spectrum etc., etc.,

Could not put it down until finished. A modern Count of Montecristo. One of the best J. Archer's. A pity it has not yet translated into Italian.

 Fantastic!

This book is the best book I ever read! Could not put it down, lent it to all my friends who have also now had the same problem not getting anything done until the book was finished! After reading it 4 times now I still can't put it down once I start it! Well worth reading!

 AMAZING

Yup. This book really is superb. Jeffrey Archer you've done it again. Kane & Abel was a really good book too, but I'd say I prefer this because it's set in the modern day.

You go on a journey with an innocent man called Danny Cartwright, and you will be blown away by his cunningly shrewd and ultimately manipulative intelligence!

Congrats JA another classic!
