Six years on they are a happy family, June pregnant with their own child. But now June's second daughter is dying without the new heart she so urgently needs. And her first daughter, along with her husband, is dead, killed by Shay Bourne, an itinerant workman they welcomed into their home. I was really looking forward to reading this book as I am a big fan of Picoult. However, I was disappointed. The plot is as good as always but I felt very uncomfortable with the way the author tries to enforce religion on you. I know that's important to the plot but it doesn't need to be quite so heavy. And I'm not a squeamish person but the description of the hanging was too much. It wasn't necessary. Not one of my favourites.
Have read a few of jodi picoults books and this is up there with the best (plain truth, my sisters keeper, the pact). Well written, well researched and keeps you guessing until the end. I can't wait for the next one!!
I bought and read this book from a flight from Florida back to the UK, i didn't put it down at all the whole flight, even when everyone was asleep, it was that good. The story isn't that original as is a bit of a twist on The Green Mile, but the way it is written just draws you in, and everyone i have passed it on to since has said the same thing. The best i've read of her's yet
I became an avid Jodi Picoult reader since reading ' My Sister's Keeper.' This particular book is on the same par with Stephen Kings Green Mile, but the essence jodi gives it is her own.
brilliant book, yet again it was one i couldn't put down.
i felt as though i was there in the story, feeling all emotions for all the characters. i think jodi has a way of doing that to us. what a fantastic author
