"Devil May Care" will be published in May 2008 to celebrate the Centenary of Ian Fleming's birth. This new installment in the adventures of the world's most iconic spy has been written by one of Britain's most admired novelists, Sebastian Faulks. 'My novel is meant to stand in the line of Fleming's own books, where the story is everything' said Faulks, 'In his house in Jamaica, Ian Fleming used to write a thousand words in the morning, then go snorkelling, have a cocktail, lunch on the terrace, more diving, another thousand words in late afternoon, then more Martinis and glamorous women. In my house in London, I followed this routine exactly, apart from the cocktails, the lunch and the

Amazing! A real credit and testament to Fleming's secret agent, and the legacy that the author has left behind him.
This book combines every aspect of the infamous spy, and does it in a way that does not impose on Fleming's history (Faulks writes in Fleming's style but under his own name, which is quite gracious of him I feel.)
The book plays out at a fairly fast pace, but all the intricate details are the ones that make this such a gripping read, and a perfect addition to the Bond series.
I believe that with a few changes here and there, (the dates in particular), the Broccoli's could have a winning movie at their fingertips.
Excellent book. Bond really lives on in this book and what a great idea to take us into the 1960s where the Fleming novels ended. The main villain and his mate are really scary. This book has really convinced me that Faulks is a great writer and I will most certainly read some of his other novels.
having watched all the films but nerver read any of the book and with the sequal to casino royale out l8r this year (quantum of solace) i decided to buy this book. i can say i was not dissapointed it is a brilliant book and i couldnt put it down so within 2 days id finished it but if ur a fan of bond buy this book
It is rare that a book recovers from beginning with a paragraph that is almost superfluous and sadly this is the case here. Fleming's direct, descriptive writing style led to him being underrated by critics for many years who failed to appreciate the leanness of his prose and the telling nature of the detail he included. Faulks just writes endless paragraphs covering every event in tedious minutae, had this been written by Fleming one suspects it would have been a hundred pages shorter. The plot is informed more by Sixties Bond films than Fleming's classic writing and includes many nods and winks to the master that are so broad they border on pantomime. Read this triumph of greed and hype back to back with Moonraker and see if you can honestly call it worthy of Fleming
I am 29 and this is the first fiction book i can remember reading since about age 9. I have never been that in to reading. I have tried reading fiction books but never found any that caught me and drew me in. Only now can i understand what people mean when they say they cannot put a book down.
Why did i want to read this book? I like james bond and though i could relate to it. It's amazing! A great story! If i had to criticise i could not fault the way it has been written but maybe it does lack some bond gadgets, now i'm just being picky! Buy it!
