  Very disappointing

I had high expectations to this book, but I hated it, and anyone who knows anything about Auschwitz at all should do the same. Although I do appreciate literature that makes this part of our history known to younger people, I think it should at least have some historic accuracy to be published in the first place... I think I understand what the author wants to achieve, but I still hate it.

Gets a lot of negative reviews!

This book has had a lot of criticism from various media sources for being inaccurate with regards to the fact. The point of the matter is that this book is aimed at children who are aged between 10-12 and it does what it aims to do! It simply alerts children all over the world about the horror of Auswitz and how awful it was. If you want to teach your child about the world in a simple but effective way, read them this book!

  Good read, worth the money!

Loved this book, It was sad towards the end because you can sort of guess what there fate is going to be and you feel yourself screaming at the book for him not to go under the fence. Worth the buy :)

You HAVE to read this book!!
I could not put this book down! It was so interesting to follow how the relationship between Bruno and Shmuel develops despite the circumstances. Looking at the world and the holocaust through Bruno's innocent, naive eye's and the way he views the world around him is very powerful. The book provides an escape into this world that Bruno and Shmuel have created for themselves and it is one adventure that i was definetly happy to be part of. The twist at the end was just emotional.

You just have to read this book!!

  Fantastic, simply fantastic

A book that will without a doubt become a classic. It's so well written in the way it captures the workings of a nine year old's mind that you could be mistaken for thinking it had come straight from the child's mouth. I found myself unable to put the book down, the innocence of the Bruno in not realising what is going on around him will make even people with hearts of stone think long after they have put the book down.

Despite all the hype about this book (and the film) I am unable to finish reading it due to it's poor quality.

It is written from a child's point of view using childish grammar, however this isn't an issue. The problem I have is the language, let me explain. It's written in English, but everyone in the story would be talking German. The main child refers to Hitler as "The Fury" instead of Fuhrer. So far so good, except, the German for fury is "Wut", which sounds nothing like the German word Fuhrer. Once I realised this I couldn't continue. I find it completely inexcusable.

This book could have been one of the best ever written, the storyline gives so much possibility for a true exploration of human behaviour and relationships. However, it just doesn't.

I loved the innocence of this book and all the references to the subject it was discussing. A great story that I've recommended to all of my family and friends.
