I've been following Tara Brach's dharma talks for some time now, but this book can definately be read by someone who is not very familiar with Buddhism. In fact, it was one of the first books I read. Brach writes in a very personal way, which makes this book so easy to read and easy to apply in your everyday life.
If you're going through a tough time, DEFINATELY read this book. She talks you through acceptance and dealing with issues you'd much rather run away from, but in a skilful and helpful way.
Being a clinical psychologist allows Brach to put a Western spin on Buddhist philosophy and teaching, but this makes it far more understandable.
I would recommend this book to everyone - in fact, it's one of my favourite books to give away as a present. It's definately one that you'll pick up at any point in your life and read back on. My copy is quite well worn by now - I always find myself referring back to it.
