Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again ...Working as a lady's companion, the heroine of Rebecca learns her place. Life begins to look very bleak until, on a trip to the South of France, she meets Maxim de Winter, a handsome widower whose sudden proposal of marriage takes her by surprise. She accepts, but whisked from glamorous Monte Carlo to the ominous and brooding Manderley, the new Mrs de Winter finds Max a changed man. And the memory of his dead wife Rebecca is forever kept alive by the forbidding Mrs Danvers ...Not since Jane Eyre has a heroine faced such difficulty with the Other Woman. An international bestseller that has never gone out of print, Rebecca is the haunting story of a young girl consumed by love and the struggle to find her identity.

 A true masterpiece

This book is a true all-time masterpiece exhibiting the pure genius of a great writer. This is the first book of Ms Dumaurier that I read (I'm not really into classics), but it certainly won't be the last. Save for the first few pages, the book is a compulsive page turner with many twists and turns until the dramatic finale. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Daphne Du Maurier wrote her greatest novel when she wrote Rebecca. The story is about a young girl who meets then eventually marries Maxim De Winter, a man with a mysterious past and a dark secret concerning his first wife Rebecca. We go on a journey with the girl(we only know her as Mrs De Winter) as she discovers deep, dark secrets.... 10/10

The story of the young, naive and painfully shy young woman who comes to live at Manderley with handsome widower Max de Winter who hides a terrible secret regarding his late wife Rebecca who despite being dead is clearly still mistress of Manderley.

 A masterpiece!

This is a beautifully written book. You think you know where it's leading you, but it then twists in your fingers leaving you breathless as you chase word after word, page after page. Once you pick it up it will be very difficult to put it back down!

 Haunting

I cannot believe it has taken me so long to get around to reading this book. Haunting, beautifully written and gripping, it is absolutely spell-binding. I would recommend this book for a long train/plane journey. After I got past the first chapter it sucked me in and I didn't want to put it down. There is no doubt that this book is a classic and I'm now going to read more Du Maurier.
