Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

 great characters !

Finally a book having not only a story to tell, but also great characters. Some people are just like your neighbours, nice, well behaving, correct, etc. and some others are quite out of our usual acquaintances. They are so well described, without ever judging their quite unusual way of life that I couldn't help but being fascinated. Besides the story brings up more suspense on every page and I couldn't turn the book down for a whole night.

I'm an English student and I brought this when it was recommended by The Times Newspaper for some easy-going, light reading and was pleasantly surprised... this book is engaging, gripping and the plot is beautifully woven together, interlinking all the characters. Lisbeth Salander is an especially brilliant character; I'd like to say more but I don't want to spoil it for the prospective readers out there. This book is edgy and is keeping me up at night because I just can't put it down... buy it! BUY IT NOW!!

 Awed!

You probably noticed this book topping the book charts of mostly all the bookshop you can find. I was reluctant to get it and start reading for it- AGAIN belongs in a series. I'm not usually a a fan of crime fiction but since it was highly recommended by a friend of mine I decided to give it a try and guess what?... it got me HOOKED!

The First book of the Millenium Series is a brilliant read, the storyline of the book is little slow at first but it quickly picked up and revealed itself to be a worthy and amazing read. The characters are with powerful descriptions. The heroin of the book is unusually an unlikable, sociopath and reserved and may be repulsive character to some but she's a highly talented hacker, with a photographic memory that makes her an ass kick brilliant in her job which is as a researcher.

The book tackled issues about violence against women, incest, rape, murder at the same time the author addressed many themes in his novel, self-sacrifice , love and redemption, good always prevail and luck versus chance and fate.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first part of a trilogy of books by late Swedish author Stieg Larsson. It's a fast paced and compelling read which I totally enjoyed and highly recommend.

The plot revolves around journalist Mikael Blomkvist who is hired to investigate a case involving a missing girl. The story also revolves around socially awkward misfit investigator Lisbeth Salander who becomes involved in the mystery.

Larsson has crafted a superb crime thriller. The story is a real page turner and there's plenty of detail and character development to enjoy. The real delight of this novel though is the character Salander. She's an intriguing character, enigmatic, sexy, dangerous and almost goth in appearance.

This novel starts off a little slow but once your into the story you will find yourself struggling to put the book down. At times it's a little grotesque and there's at least one very graphic sex scene but it's a superb effort and I can't wait to read the next two books.
