Ignore the previous negative review, what that person honestly expected goes beyond me, but its a simple fact, the Mass Effect Novels never were intended to be the same storyline as the games.

Having read a fair few books by Karpyshyn before, I can say now Ascension is absolutely my favourite. Revelation, the previous Mass Effect novel, while offering information about what takes place with Saren before the first game, felt just like that, nothing more then something to fill the gaps in, which is why I truly relish Ascension's new story in the Mass Effect universe.

Offering small glimpse's into events after the games calamitous events, the book picks up with a character from Revelation, telling her story, as well as involving new and enjoyable characters. The storyline is gripping, the characters fulfilling and the book in itself is a must-read for fans of the first novel. So for fans of the first novel and game, it is a must-read. And while the first novel isn't as exciting and interesting as Ascension, its a necessary read to understand the characters and story of the second novel.

However, as the previous review shows, fans of the game alone will likely be confused by the story or put off by the fact it is unrelated to the game directly.
