I was given this book on my 18th birthday and told "read the first 4 chapters and if you don't like it, don't finish it". It took the first 5 pages and I was hooked!
The story follows Moist Von Lipwig, the charismatic (if unfortunatly named) conman who is always on the run, always moving forward. After being caught and hanged literally within an inch of his life, Moist is given the chance to make a decent, honest living as a postmaster, a fate worse than death. Having decided that there may be something in this for him, Moist agrees to the job and after meeting the intresting Mr Groat and the pin mad Stanley, he makes it his mission to revive the ancient postal system and begins to move the mail. He plans on restoring the post office to its former glory and making the post office something to be proud of again. But what Moist has not betted on, is that there are some people who really, really don't want him to succeed.

The characters in this book are by far Terry Pratchetts best. The charismaticly charming Moist, the awkward and precise Stanley, the expeimental Mr Groat, Mr Pump the golem, chain smoking Adora Bell Dearheart and the strange Reacher Gilt all add something to this story. The thrill of the chase, the mystery that surrounds the post office and the daring challenges Mosit Von Lipwig issues to the world make this book an unforgettable read. The wit and humour in the story draw you in and make you hold your breath for the next page.
One thing is for sure...you should have been there...you should have seen it...
