How many lives can one abandoned kitten touch? This is the heart-warming and unforgettable story of a truly idiosyncratic cat with a strong sense of loyalty and love, and a taste for fast-food. When he was just a few weeks old, Dewey Readmore Books was shoved through the book returns slot of his local library in a sleepy town. Starving, terrified and bruised after being battered by falling books, Dewey curled up into the arms of the library director Vicky. Vicky was a single mother who had escaped a violent husband and was struggling to bring up her little girl Jodi alone. Vicky fell in love with the little bundle of fur in her arms and campaigned to allow Dewey to stay and become the library cat. She didnt know what she was letting herself in for Deweys arrival transformed Vicky and Jodis lives, as well as the staff at the library and eventually the fortunes of an entire town. Dewey was an instant hit with the library regulars and had an amazing instinct to cuddle up close to visitors that were going through a tough time.Vicky tells the incredible story of one severely disabled, wheelchair bound girl that Dewey took a shine to and how he would climb inside her jacket as she giggled hysterically and her eyes, usually almost catatonic, burst into life.He supervised childrens reading groups and ensured no child felt left out by snuggling into the laps of any outsiders. He was a ball of mischievous energy and relished in turning the hitherto quiet and predictable routines of the library upside down. Dewey became the towns number one attraction and he began regularly appearing in the national and international media. Fans from all over the world visited the small town to pay homage to the world's most beloved cat.

This book was a lovely heartwarming story, a must for any cat lovers out there. I felt as if I knew Dewey as if he was my own cat. As always this kind of story has a sad ending and I sobbed my heart out at the end but well worth it. Thank you Vicki for sharing the story of this wonderful cat.

 Wonderful!!!!

What can I say about this book, other than it really is a great read. In fact I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it.

It is about a cat that is found in the returned books drop box of a library. The library staff take it in and it becomes the focal point of their library. It really is an inspirational and very heat warming tale which is in fact based on a true story.

It will have you both laughing out loud and crying uncontrollably into your tissues.

I would definately recommend this book.

 Adorable

Being a cat person, my dad decided to get me this. And I'm glad he did. It's an extremely cute story that is told. All the things that Dewey got up to, how he became a star. One of the best books I have read. Although I did cry at the end :(
If you're a cat person, you are going to thoroughly enjoy this.

 BEAUTIFUL DEWEY

I was given this book recently as a gift by my daughter, although I am a "dog" person she thought I would still like it, and I did.
It is a heartwarming story about this poor little kitten that someone pushed into a book chute at the library.
The love that Dewey had for the author Vicki and her love for him was immeasurable. The townsfolk adored him and he ended up being popular internationally.
The story was wonderful, there was one thing that I wish could have been different in the story, Vicki did so much for Dewey, I am just so sad that she couldn't be with him when he got so sick he had to be sent to sleep.I know how hard it is to lose a beloved animal,it is heartbreaking, but I feel that she should have done that one last thing for him.
Buy the book and keep the tissues handy!!
