In the city of Imardin, where magic and power walk hand-in-hand, a young street-girl, adopted by the Magicians' Guild, finds herself at the centre of a terrible plot that may destroy the entire world...Sonea has learned much at the Magicians' Guild and the other novices now treat her with a grudging respect. But she cannot forget what she witnessed in the High Lord Akkarin's underground chamber - or his warning that the realm's ancient enemy is growing in power once more. As Akkarin reveals more of his knowledge, Sonea does not know who to believe, or what she most fears. Could the truth really be as terrifying as the High Lord claims? Does an ancient power threaten them all? Or does the guild face a threat from a much closer source?

This is the last book in the Black Magicians Trilogy and it kept me coming back making you rethink everything you though you knew. i really could not put it down. the twists and cliff hangers kept me gripped from beginning to end! Everything was neatly if not some what predicable ended on a good note. An amazingly well wrote strong female lead from beginning to end. A MUST READ trilogy and Author. As before the author has started us off with platform of beliefs and expectations and once again there is still so much unknown and all of it revolves around the relationship and discovered secrets of the high lord and his apprentice. We find out Arkkrins Story and why he's has done what he did and shown the consequences but the battle that is coming magician against magician I can guarantee isn't what you ll be expecting. What will the guild what will sonea have to do to save all that is dear to them. I loved this book so much so i went straight on to reading the authors next trilogy "The Age of The Five!!" a lot longer but still worth every word read

 Fantastic

I'm a writer, and therefore a very keen reader. I have read alot, both good and bad. This is a fantastic book, not as strong as her Age of the Five trilogy, but still one of my favourites. I have bought, and will continue to buy, every book she writes.

Just so you know what standard I am judging this by: I love JRR Tolkien, George RR Martin and Robin Hobb, Trudi Canavan is a great writer, this trilogy is not as good her Age of the Five trilogy, but everything she writes is a MUST READ.
