Stuart MacBride's Number One bestselling crime series opens with this award-winning debut. DS Logan McRae and the police in Aberdeen hunt a child killer who stalks the frozen streets. Winter in Aberdeen: murder, mayhem and terrible weather...It's DS Logan McRae's first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn't get much worse. Three-year-old David Reid's body is discovered in a ditch, strangled, mutilated and a long time dead. And he's only the first. There's a serial killer stalking the Granite City and the local media are baying for blood. Soon the dead are piling up in the morgue almost as fast as the snow on the streets, and Logan knows time is running out. More children are going missing. More are going to die. And if Logan isn't careful, he could end up joining them...

I was hooked from the moment i picked it up! Only recently started reading Stuart MacBride, but have read everything i can get my hands on since. Like that it's set in Scotland rather than the typical american settings.

 well worth a read

 Aberdeen

If you know Aberdeen this will give an you an additional experience when reading this book. The story is great and keeps your attention but if you have local knowledge will find yourself visualising it which is an added bonus. If you haven't visited Aberdeen then reading his books will make you curious. Well worth reading, I read this one after heard people raving about it and with it being based where I work that is another reason.

Was lent this book by a friend and read it in a couple of days, my husband was surprised to hear me actually laughing as I read it, its the references to Insch's sweets that does it for me everytime! Immediately went out and bought some Tunnocks caramel wafers as a thank you to the friend who had lent me the book, he understood the meaning! If you haven't read any Stuart Macbride books...WHY? You are missing a real treat

A crime novel through which I laughed my head off!!

As soon as I found Stuart Macbride I have read all his books. Although the plots are rather dark, the characters are so vivid, and so funny, and Insch and Steel are actually quite likeable in a strange sort of way! Poor Laz, he does seem to go through it though...Marvellous.
