Streetwise George and his big, childlike friend Lennie are drifters, searching for work in the fields and valleys of California. They have nothing except the clothes on their back, and a hope that one day they'll find a place of their own and live the American dream. But dreams come at a price. Gentle giant Lennie doesn't know his own strength, and when they find work at a ranch he gets into trouble with the boss's daughter-in-law. Trouble so bad that even his protector George may not be able to save him.

This book is a very touching and amazing story. After being forced to read it at school it was boring and rubbish due to essay after essay. But read it again, out of choice when your older and you can really appreciate the beauty of this book. A great read!
This is a very short read, I read this as part of school work, and I was very moved.
It only takes a couple of hours to read this novella, but the story therein will last you a life time. Steinbeck has a great way of using animals and nature in this book to identify with the characters.
It has a very sad ending which, is mirrored with the dog in the book, if you don't know I wont spoil it for you.
As with all Steinbeck very real you can almost taste the sweat and smell the dirt in the barn.
exceptionally well written piece of work
Without a doubt this is the saddest book I have ever read.
John's work can be rather hard to each up with, and sometimes when tired. One finds themselves reading pages over and over again. Not with this book, it's an easy read.
It's the ultimate devotion of true friendship, if you've ever wondered what that is then; this book is for you.
I had to read this book for my english gcse exam and i was not impressed at all. The book is extremely boring and although it is good for writing an essay for an exam question I wouldnt recommend reading it if you don't have to! I found it very dissapointing as it had no intresting story and I found the character of Lennie very annoying. Steinbeck does create descriptions which are useful for writing essays but other than that this book was terrible!
Of Mice and Men is a short novel that focuses on the life of migrant workers in 1930s America. How Steinbeck manages to portray the characters is truely astounding. A true classic that it most definately worth a read.
