Pulled back from the front line of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, the men of the Tanith First-and-Only await news of their next deployment. But when an enemy prisoner is brought in for interrogation, Gaunt is drawn into a murderous web of intrigue. Who can be trusted, and exactly what does the prisoner know that makes him so valuable? The fate of the crusade rests upon the answers, and Gaunt must find them out before he is eliminated.

Picked up my copy at the recent UK Games Day, and thoroughly worth the wait. Fans of Gaunts Ghosts, this is an essential addition to the collection. Dan Abnett continues to display a thoroughly insightful understanding of the challenges faced by a regiment in all aspects of warfare, in this instance the challenge of facing extended time away from the frontlines and the tedium of waiting for the call to action - a particular challenge for frontliners like Ibram Gaunt and the Tanith First and Only. A brilliant follow up to the events of Traitor General, Blood Pact is a solid addition to the Ghosts saga, the only real criticism being that as the beginning of a new arc, the ending is but set up for the next novel.

If you enjoy your novels with a real taste of the dark nature of the Warhammer 40,000 universe and a taste of the hardships of warfare, then this is a must read.
