Everybody thinks they know the tale of King Henry VIII's wives: divorced, beheaded died; divorced, beheaded, survived. But behind this familiar story, lies a far more complex truth. This book brings together the 'other women' of King Henry VIII. It examines the tales of the women who Henry loved but never married.

From the description of the book I was expecting a bit more focus/ indepth look at the believed personalities of Henry's mistresses, what they were like, and some interesting relationship events. The book does discuss the people belived to be mistresses and illegitimate children, but whereas I thought this would be some light, easy and entertaining reading it was more like a history lesson; discussions that start with a mistress or illegitimate child seem to wonder off course to their distant relatives, long lists of French names/titles and English names/ titles to the point of utter confusion before even reaching half way through the book.
I am a fan of books focussing on the Tudor court (and other royal families) and this book was okay, but I think I shall stick to my novels. This book would probably be more interesting to someone who has studied history.
