I decided to read a couple of reviews before commiting to the Anita Blake series as there are almost 21 books to date. I read a selection of mixed reviews and decided I had nothing to lose if I bought this book and decided I didn't like it... Well. I'm currently up to book 15 and I can't put it down! This book is for those of us who still love Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries, but need a little more blood, gore, sex and most definately monsters. My advice would be; read Guilty Pleasures. You have nothing to lose.
