During the war, Chen Zhen was a hero. In the tempestuous years that followed, he became a legend. The exciting story of Chen Zhen is given a modern refresh as Donnie Yen takes up the heroic mantle made famous by international superstars Bruce Lee (Fist Of Fury, 1972) and Jet Li (Fist Of Legend, 1994).

The Shanghai of the 1920s is an exciting but ruthless place to be, as the Japanese enforce their expansionist ideals on the beleaguered country by any means necessary, while the rest of the superpowers watch on. One man decides to make a stand against injustice by becoming a masked avenger and using all of his exceptional martial arts skills to dismantle the evil that is besetting his beloved country.

 A BIG LET DOWN...

where do i start...yes i like my kung fu and my action but i also need a good story line and i found this to fail on all levels...the story starts well with a good opening but begins to fall apart after 15 to 20 mins then just drags and when you finally get to see some action its all to quick and over before you know it and trust me theres not enough of it..you just end up waiting for the big finale and as this scene has been done on several occasions before what with bruce lee in fist of fury and jet li in fist of legend this has no comparrison...is just everybody waving there arms about and definnitley bad camera work...on the plus side the picture is good aswell as the sound...chinese with english subs.. i am a fan of donnie and if you would like to see him in better movies check out ip man and dragon tiger gate..

 Highly recommended.

Superb kung-fu drama from martial arts maestro Donnie Yen.

This is a kung fu film with substance and plot, not a simple story to take you from fight to fight. It has very high production values for a HK film; 1920's Shanghi is lavish, detailed and packed with 100's of extras and the opening WW1 scenes are a sight to behold.

Yen directs the action scenes that pepper the storyline with such magnificent skill and flair that only he posses. Yes it is a shame that there is not a bit more action but this would not benefit the narrative, and what you do get is more than satisfying.

Finally the picture and sound quality of this blu ray edition are superb.

Highly recommended.

 REALLY disappointing

This is supposed to be the sequel to "Fist of Fury" (movie with Bruce Lee, which had a remake done with Jet Li called "Fist of Legend" and even Donnie Yen played the lead role in the TV show in the 90's).

The setting and background (china in the 30's) is great and well done... but that all. Acting is poor, story is really boring, when not ridiculous at moments and even action scenes are really bad.

You can buy "Fist of Legend" (first part of this story) with Jet Li on this website for Euro 9, so don't waste your money on this.
