Charged with murder and likely going to jail, crime boss Reg Bellavance (Ray Wise) is out on bail and wants to skip town with his son. The only problem is that the money he had stashed away for just such an occasion has gone missing.

Bellevance gives his right hand man Lloyd (Dana Ashbrook) a simple order: Find his money, kill everyone who had a hand in stealing it and make it messy. Lloyd and his crew tear out into the city and begin carrying out the order in brutal fashion... They have no idea just how dangerous their job is about to get.

What's not to love about a psycho kid?

If in the 90s you grew up admiring Macauley Caulkin race around his house sprinkling marbles across the floor and playing over a scene from Angels with Dirty Faces to scare away the disbelieving pizza delivery boy youve aged perfectly to enjoy Aggression Scale. Substitute marbles for razor blades and an RC car for a shotgun and in the mind of any blood-thirsty horror fan you have a hit.
Like most films of this genre enjoyment is fulfilled more through the anticipation and the intricacies of booby traps complimented by a universal sadistic attitude rather than character and narrative development. Not to say the characters are just two-dimensional
whats not to like about an enigmatic mute armed with a fiery temper and a loaded gun?
but it is in the action where Aggression Scale strives.
Its fair to say fans of Home Alone like to pretend that numbers 3 4 and 5 dont exist so I believe it is equally fair to make this the unofficial answer to the trilogy.

 Home Alone With Higher Stakes!

The Home Invasion movie is a grindhouse staple. Cheap, effective and quick to turn around. All you needed was a house, a small crew and a game cast willing to throw caution to the wind and break a few taboos. Of course, big budget movies like Panic Room also use the genre to great effect but Aggression Scale does it for pennies and never breaks a sweat as it pitches a psychotic kid with nothing to loose (think Home Alone only the parental figures have been murdered by a criminal gang) against a group of arrogant thugs who aren't expecting trouble.

The end result is an effective thriller that brings to mind the classic nasty B pictures of the 70s. Drive-in thrills for the home cinema basically.
