Game Of Thrones: Season 1 Box Set (5 Discs) (Blu-ray)

must admit, though i was very interested, i didn't watch the series on 'TV' , i felt if over the ten week period if i missed an episode or and forgot to set it to record, it would spoil what looked to be right up my street viewing.
so, i was allways gonna buy.
since starting to watch six days ago, after it arrived, i've been completly pulled in to it, couldn't wait for the next episode, watched two or three each time ( in addition to watching 'contagion' and 'immortals' ) it has been compelling viewing.
with jealousy, betrayel, greed, some loyalty, gritty and graphic fight scenes along with an on-going 'adult theme' throughout ( as with the 'H.B.O' series 'rome' a while back )
i have to agree with many if not all the earlier reviewers, 'GAME OF THRONES' is one of the best, made for 'TV' series in recent times.

Best TV series I have seen since LOST and can't wait for more...

I can't add anything new to what has already been said about this series. Absolutely top notch veiwing!
However I must say a few things about the blue-ray discs themselves.
I may be just unlucky. I have a 2 year old Panasonic and also a brand model Toshiba 3d player. Both have the most up to date software. These discs won't play at all on the Panasonic. They won't start as they should on the Toshiba, but after 'fiddling around' with the remote I stumbled on a way to get them to play. The problem seems to me to be that the disc manufacturers keep 'upgrading' the formats and the player software does not always keep up with the changes.
Also I think the extra feature menues need sorting on these discs. A drop down menu comes into view. Some items seem to repeat them selves (I've only watched the first 2 discs so far). Also when you select other items a message tells you to insert disc 3,4,5 or whatever. It would have been much simpler from my point of veiw to only include what is on that particular disc. Perhaps I am just 'nit picking'
I have still given these discs 5 stars- simply because of the actual series!
UPDATE: I am pleased to report that the manufacturers of both my players have now updated their software. Though I have only tried out these discs, indications seem to be 'problem solved'. The moral is if you purchace a disc that won't play updated software will sooner or later become available. 23 Feb 2013.

heard all the hype that surrounded this new hbo series and thought it was just another run of the mill series,how wrong was i,hooked from the very first scene,watched the whole ten episodesin three nights,the storyy and characters and actingas well as the location it was fimed at is out of this world.hbo have a real gem in this series having missed series 2 on sky atlantic cannot wait to watch series 2.i also recommend the books.20 out of 10 thats how good this series is.

If you haven't read the books, then you must. They contain a lot more story which can actually help flesh out situations and characters. The TV show can be a bit confusing if you dont know the books as a result.

But HBO has done an astounding job putting this onto TV.

This is the best book adaptation I've ever watched, as it runs so close to the book.

The picture and sound quality on the Blue ray are amazing, and that goes without saying. You get lots of extras.

But I would recommend buying this now (24-06-12) before HBO stops selling the current prints, and re-edits the entire box set and the final episode due to the George Bush situation (google that).

Get it now, before HBO butchers the final episode!
