Pixar's film may not be as sharply written as Dreamworks' Antz or the best of Pixar's output, but it still packs a punch and is by no means an inferior film. Kevin Spacey's voice work as the villain is truly brilliant.
A Bug's Life is often considered to be the forgotten Pixar film. Everyone knows the Toy Story trilogy, Finding Nemo & Monster's Inc. but I strongly recommend giving A Bug's Life a chance, if you haven't already done so.
Featuring entertaining voice work, impressive production design & a lot of humour, it really is a little gem. Unsurprisingly, the Blu-ray transfer, as with all CG animated movies, is exquisite and the audio is wonderful too.
One of the strangest things I remember hearing about this movie is that most people believed that this was Pixar's first "blow" to the stomach. The statement slightly confused me and I still to this day don't understand why people thought of this as a bad movie. In my honest opinion it is one of the greatest of the Pixar collection.
You have a great cast, enjoyable character, a menacing villian who leaves an impact and also a spectacular visual treat on the eyes. Not only that because the film takes itself seriously the humour comes out naturally. If you havent seen it, you must.
A Bugs Life (1998) is the second of Pixars movies and sadly its become slighty overlooked compared to the more popular ones like Toy Story and Wall-E.
The voice cast of this movie includes Dave Foley, Kevin Spacey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Hyde Pierce, Denis Leary and Hayden Panettiere.
As with all the Pixar movies A Bugs Life has a great story with an important message for the kids. Kevin Spacey delights in playing the villain while David Hyde Pierce steals most of the laughs.
Directors John Lasseter (Toy Story) and Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) do a great job mixing the bitter sweet character moments with sweet natured humour and a couple of exciting action sequences.
A Bugs Life has become the forgotten Pixar movie but thats not really fair because its a real gem. The animation looks great, the cast are having a ball and the story has a timeless quality about it.
For those of you that didnt realise, this is actually a remake of the magnificent seven, the twin bugs are like one,so there would be seven. This is great family entertainment,i saw it at the cinema, loved it,bought the dvd,now the bluray which is the best i have ever seen it
