The family Robinson is in hiber-sleep, soaring into deep space. Their mission: establish a colony that will become home for a dying Earth's inhabitants. But sabotage jolts the Robinsons awake, sending them - and an often troublesome robot - off course and into amazing adventures where the question is not just where they are, but also when.

A fine cast (Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc, Heather Graham and more) sets just the right tone of heroism and fun in an imaginative sci-fi voyage based on the '60s TV series and featuring cameos by some of the TV stars. "Danger, Will Robinson!" And amazement too.

Lost in Space (1998) is a big screen sci-fi adventure based on the old TV show. The cast includes William Hurt, Mimi Rogers, Heather Graham, Lacey Chabert, Matt LeBlanc and Gary Oldman.

This movie has some very good things to enjoy. The cast is pretty good with Hurt delivering as the father of the family and Oldman having a ball as Dr Smith. The cemistry between LeBlanc and Graham is difficult to believe though.

The special effects are hit and miss. The space action scenes look very good and are often exciting but the CG-animated creatures look very cheap and unrealisitic.

Director Stephen Hopkins (Predator 2) does a pretty useful job but is let down by a very poor script. This movie begins very well but loses its way towards the end with the introduction of time travelling.

Its a real shame because the cast deserved better and there could have been an interesting franchise here if just a few more things worked on this movie. Very hit and miss unfortunately.

 Lost in Space. The Movie

When Lost in Space came out I remember seeing it at the cinima, it was a good film but not without it's faults. The special effects good at the time look a bit dated now. The story of the family being sent half way across the galaxy is a good idea but in a 2 hour film it's a bit strached for time. The acting is good though with Gary Oldman playing Dr Smith, he plays it with fun and madness and it's all part of the charm of this film. It's a shame that this film did not a have sequal as when I left the cinima in 1998 after watching this film I felt it needed one. One day I would like to see a remake in 3D or sequel but with more thought out storyline and more rounded characters

 Oh dear! Missed opportunity!

Matt le Blanc has little to do in the below average TV-serial film adaptation. The Special effects aren't that special, but the worst let down is the story. Plodding in places and mildly dissatisfying. Big shame. Willam Hurt is wooden throughout. Mimi Rogers and the rest of the cast are ok, but let down by a poor script and dialogue. Could've been so much better
