I saw The Towering first when I was only 10 years old, back in the 80's, and it fascinated me from the very first moment. I never had a chance to see it on the big screen, but my 50 inch plasma comes at least a little close and the experience can only be better with this long awaited Bluray.
Sadly, the extra's that are available in the US release will, as far as I'm informed, not be available in Europe. Then again, I got the special edition DVD for that. The film itself is what matters and I can't wait to see it in 1080p. I hope they made a good transfer, not the "Ghostbusters" kind.

The Towering of course hasn't got the speed and stunning effects we see in a movie like 2012, but I wouldn't call that a lack of things. Remember, The Towering was made years before the first CGI effects were made, in a time when water was real water, fire was real fire and destruction was real destruction. Hence the huge tower model on the set that was set to flames :-) Of course, with your typical seventies disaster movie comes your typical list of big stars and they do a great job. McQueen and Newman practically spray testosteron all over the place, in the most positive sense of the word. This is a story about good old fashioned hero's in a movie that takes its time to tell that story. I love the steadycam, which is such a relief now in a time where every modern action scene is all shaken up to the point of vomiting.
I give The Towering Inferno 5 stars, even while I don't know how the bluray image will turn out, but I'm hoping for the best.

Could someone please let me know if this bluray has either Dutch or English subtitles?

this lavish and star-studded spectacle was without knowing a glimse into the future.
in this day and age you most certainly would not have as many well-known ( top-flight ) actors involved in a production such as this.
the film will bring back many memories of many stars that sadly no longer with us.
the film tells of a LAUNCH PARTY FOR A RECENTLY COMPLETED MULTI-STOREY building, the 'host' of which ignores warnings to take the party to a lower floor when a fire is discovered on the 81st floor.
as the fire takes hold the heroics of the fire department takes over the essence of the tale.
with stars such as 'steve mcqueen' 'paul newman' 'william holden' and 'faye dunnaway' on board, not to mention a certain 'o.j.simpson' the film is a must-own classic of yesteryear.
i was pleasantly suprised by the picture and sound quality of the blu-ray presentation of the '1974' hit. ...there are a few sequences where the picture is a little 'grainy' but not in the main, also given the year it was made the special effects are credible.
plenty of tension and heroics to be had.....VERDICT ---worth adding to your collection.

Good picture quality, and plenty of extras, only missing a few extras that are on the american blu-ray release.
please note audio is English DTS 5.1 not Dolby True HD 5.1 as stated on the box. Must have Blu-Ray for any Steve McQueen fan.
