Moneyball (Blu-ray)

I bought this because I liked the look of the cast. I was expecting another League of Their Own but no, it's just Brad Pitt in a bad mood being a bit cocky with an Aaron Sorkin script.
Sadly, the far batter, Phillip Seymour Hoffman had to play second fiddle to Pitt and Jonah Hill.
Rent this before you buy. Couldnt even sell it on Ebay so I am stuck with it.

The movie is great, fantastic performances all round, well worth Brad Pitt's oscar nod. Excellent value for blu-ray

This film probably did not make it to the Box Office because the film is played out around the game of baseball. Please dont let this put you off giving this a watch. Whether you like baseball or not, this film succeeds in focusing on a compelling story without over-dramatic or overly played slow-motion shot, drawn-out game segments.

That this is based on a real story adds to the impact of the polished performances from Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. The theme is overcoming adversity. The pace is fast and complementary to the storyline. The script is grounded and smart without every feeling artificial. If you enjoyed The Pursuit of Happyness and Jerry Maguire, you will like this one.

Directed by 'Capote's' Bennet Miller and starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill in Oscar nominated performances this is a surprisingly enjoyable look at the story of how one small Oakland Baseball team tried to defy the rules of the game in San Francisco in 2002 to compete with bigger and more expensive teams.

I don't know a lot about Baseball and there at times is a lot of game based information to take in, but if you can do that then underneath is an engaging and well acted story that soon has you rooting for this small underdog team to overcome it's odds.

You don't have to be into Baseball to enjoy this drama in the least and I would definitely recommend it as a quality piece of film-making that deserved it's accolades. Blu ray quality is fine enough but as it's not a visual effects heavy film it's maybe not essential on Blu-ray over DVD perhaps.
