My Week With Marilyn is the true story of a star-struck boy who falls in love with the biggest celebrity in the world, Marilyn Monroe.

Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams stars as Marilyn Monroe (Blue Valentine, Shutter Island, Brokeback Mountain) and is joined by a stellar cast including Eddie Redmayne as Colin Clark (The Other Boleyn Girl, The Good Shepherd), Kenneth Branagh as Sir Laurence Olivier (Thor, 'Wallander'), Dame Judi Dench as Dame Sybil Thorndike (Quantum of Solace), Julia Ormond as Vivien Leigh (Che, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Dougray Scott as Arthur Miller (Mission Impossible II), Zoe Wanamaker as Paula Strasberg (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), Emma Watson (Harry Potter), Dominic Cooper (Tamara Drewe, An Education, Mamma Mia), Derek Jacobi (Gosford Park), Toby Jones (Frost Nixon, Infamous), Miranda Raison (Spooks), Philip Jackson (Little Voice), Geraldine Somerville (Harry Potter) and Michael Kitchen ('Foyle's War').

23 year-old Colin Clark was determined to break into the film business and his first job was The Prince and The Showgirl - the film that was set to be the smash hit of the year famously uniting the biggest stars of the day, Marilyn Monroe and Sir Laurence Olivier. On honeymoon in Britain with her new husband, Arthur Miller, Marilyn is excited about the project but quickly becomes desperate to run away from her Hollywood entourage, the pressures of work and the press who hound her. For Marilyn, Colin is a welcome antidote and he offers her everything she craves when, together, they escape the film set to get closer in an idyllic Britain.

the film,a true story, is based on the writings of 'colin clarke' who in 1956 stumbled upon a position, lowly as it might have been, as a production assistant during the filming of 'the prince and the showgirl' starring 'lawrence olivier' and 'marilyn monroe'
it tells the tale of an insecure 'marilyn' and her natural ability to draw in the admiration of those around her.
during the filming 'marilyn's' volnerability' leads to her relying on the 23-year old 'colin' for support.
this really is a very watchable movie with stunning performances from 'kenneth branagh' and 'michelle williams' and great support from 'eddie redmayne' as 'colin'
don't miss it.................enjoy

Michelle shines..........the rest of the film less so.

Based upon the two books written by Colin Clark about his time spent as an assistant on the set in 1956 of 'The Prince and The Showgirl' this is the story of his week with the beguiling and beautiful Marilyn Monroe.

However, this is a film which ends up anchored more by a stellar lead performance by Michelle Williams as Monroe and superb support from Kenneth Branagh as Laurence Olivier over a name and face filled supporting cast which gets frequently underused, while newcomer Eddie Redmayne acquits himself well as the young Colin who falls into Monroe's life and drama for a few short days of adventure.

However, the film itself I found quite underwhelming and disappointing. This is fluffy and lightweight fare, a whimsical and enjoyably time-passing film, but as far as delving too deeply behind the myth and image of Monroe to uncover the darker story within...........this film will not provide any real insight or revelations that most people wouldn't already know. Aspects are touched on, but never explored in any depth, like a tick box to be checked off by the film-makers. Even though Williams herself completely convinces in the role (and should surely end up a Best Actress Oscar contender for her work) and does everything she can, the overall inconsequentiality of the film itself unfortunately still comes through.

The film? Not as good as I had hoped though not a waste of time. Williams? Pure Gold onscreen, just like Monroe herself was and more than enough to add an extra fourth star.

 Good But Overrated.

My Week with Marilyn is a true life drama starring Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Watson and Judi Dench.

Williams does a good job portraying Marilyn and does manage to capture her spirit and essence but at times she seems to lack the charisma to play the Hollywood legend.

Branagh though is terrific as Laurence Olivier and seems to be having lots of fun with the role. Dench as always is dependable support.

This movie is certainly interesting but my main problem with it is that it barely begins to understand Marilyn focusing on only a week of her life. Personally I would rather see a feature length biopic which is what Marilyn deserves.
