In The Grey, Liam Neeson leads an unruly group of oil-rig roughnecks when their plane crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. Battling mortal injuries and merciless weather, the survivors have only a few days to escape the icy elements and a vicious pack of rogue wolves on the hunt before their time runs out.

The Grey is the first great film of 2012. The trailer makes you think that this is going to be an action filled survival adventure, but the film is actually much more. I did not expect that the movie would give you as much to think about. The set up is simple, as a set of Oil workers in the wilds of Alaska crash land in the wilderness, with only a few survivors, this rag-tag group lead by Liam Neeson giving one of the best performances ever, must survive the elements and not forgetting a pack of very hungry wolves.
What I was not expecting was the well rounded characters that you actually care about and end up willing to survive. The tension throughout the film is constant as the Wolves get the taste for human blood and it's a case of fighting back to survive. The movie very cleverly drags you into the emotions the survivors with feelings ranging from terror, rage and even questioning faith. This movie is two hours of extreme survival and by the end you'll end up being emotionally drained as although some may complain about the ending, for me it was the only way the film could end as the final bit of Liam Neeson's back story is revealed.
The Grey is one of the best survival movies of all time.

Yet again this is another superb performance from Liam Neeson, the grey is a gritty and realistic chiller with a story which is simple yet nail bitingly brilliant, great performances all round, this is the ultimate survival movie and really puts you into the moment with them wondering what you might do to survive, its cold and there are some vicious wolves that really mean business, who will survive, make sure you see this fantastic movie its certainly a one off, make sure you stay until the end of the credits for one final scene!!!

 Very good film.

This film is brilliantly written, superbly acted and is gripping to the end.

The characters are penned very well indeed and you feel for all of them in the film. Quite a realistic depiction of a survival situation, with an eerie and threatening monster element thrown in to the mix.

Neeson is great in this film.

The music is also very well done and the bit at the end where the **** comes in to shot and the music starts... very emotional. Perfect use of music in the film that makes you feel so much for the guy.

 More Than You Expect.

The Grey (2011) is an adventure survival drama starring Liam Neeson, Frank Grillo, James Badge Dale and Dermot Mulroney.

This movie is more than just the man vs wolves thriller you might be expecting. There is plenty of that in this movie but its primarily a story about the human spirit.

Liam Neeson is phenomenal in this movie. He dominates every single scene with his tortured but tough character. The character Neeson plays is on a journey in more ways than one.

Director Joe Carnahan promised great things with his debut Narc but recent films like Smokin Aces and The A-Team have failed to live up to that promise. The Grey though is a return to form for Carnahan.

Carnahan's direction in this movie is both frightening and beautiful. He perfectly balances the more thrilling moments with the human story and he allows Neeson and his cast to carry the movie.

The Grey is a very good movie. Possibly Carnahan's best and Neeson is better than he has been in years. The Grey is well worth a look.
