Written by James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential) and directed by Oren Moverman (The Messenger), Rampart stars Academy Awards nominees Woody Harrelson, Ned Beatty, Sigourney Weaver, and Steve Buscemi, Ice Cube, Cynthia Nixon, Anne Heche, Ben Foster, and Robin Wright.

Veteran police officer Dave Brown (Woody Harrelson) is the last of the renegade cops in the Los Angeles Police Department, dedicated to doing "the people's dirty work" and asserting his own code of justice. When he gets caught on tape beating a suspect, he finds himself in a downward spiral as he struggles to take care of his family, and fight for his own survival. Rampart is a brutal and action-packed cop thriller.

this film is awful, the trailer for this film is very missleading, very slow moving plot, and then after sitting through it there isnt an ending!! 1 of worst films ive seen.

'dave brown' 'L.A.P.D is one of the old-school type cop, lives by his own rules.
his home life is a 'mess up' his eldest has no regard for him, his youngest just wants a dad and is confused by how he is.
are his days of being a rogue-cop numbered ?
probably......he's caught on camera beating a suspect to within an inch of his life........................all the smart-talk and believing he is beyond the clutches of his profession could come crashing down on him.
not as fast moving as it might have been, maybe worth a viewing though.

I'm not going to be as harsh on this one as others but I can't say that it's a must buy or an essential viewing either as it's story of an L.A cop descending into the hell of his own making isn't new and nor will 'Rampart' put much of a new spin on it either.

But the central performance of Woody Harrelson as Dave Brown is certainly one that he gets right into. Alongside a slew of good actors in various size supporting roles (Sigourney Weaver, Steve Buscemi, Cynthia Nixon and Robin Wright) the film eventually began to draw me in enough to Dave's situation as the circle begins to close in him and he faces up to his actions and personal wrongs. He's very solid and I also liked a couple of visual flourishes director Oren Moverman brought to the film.

I wasn't a big fan of the ending of the film either however, as it leaves you with no real sense of full resolution but I also can't say that I found the whole film a waste of time either.

I probably would just never rush to watch it again.

 Truely disappointing

Watched the trailer and it looked superb. Woody harelson plays a good part but the film is so slow and doesn't seem to have any kind of plot. When it titles came on i thought this is the end? What actually happened for the last 90 minutes or so.? And i bought it on blu ray for 15 pounds. Wouldn't reccommend it :(
