In 1974, a misguided 19 year old decided he wanted to make a name for himself and so, armed with a sawn-off shotgun and a head full of dreams, he attempted to rob a post office. Swiftly apprehended and originally sentenced to 7 years in jail, Michael Peterson has subsequently been behind bars for 34 years and transformed into Charles Bronson, Britain's most notorious prisoner.

For this controversial but critically acclaimed film from director Nicolas Winding Refn (the Pusher trilogy), Tom Hardy physically transformed himself for the role and gives a performance described by The Sun as "utterly brilliant".

Bronson is a fantastic movie on every level and must be seen, the story is based on true events and is very interesting and converts to film perfectly with an amazing direction and cast, Tom hardy is amazing in this movie and its probably his major break through role into big Hollywood movies, this to date is probably his most awesome performance followed closely by Bane in dark knight rises. The movie is very dark twisted and extremely violent and really keeps you gripped the whole time plus there is a level of humour with him too which you will chuckle at, this is a scary true story about a very disturbed and violent man and is a gem of a film, there are some great making of features too, bargain at any cost.

As a movie this is a strange one, a life story told on stage to an audience in a Clockwork Orangesque manner.

The actual story told itself I found quite boring. We basically get a short preamble of Bronson growing up, gets arrested and goes to jail, beats up the guards, moved to another jail, beats up the guards, put into an asylum beats up the guards and inmates, is released, re-arrested back to jail, beats up the guards, moved again, beats up the guards that pretty much it.

We never truely find out why he'd rather beat up the guards and go to solitary than get out so for me its a film I'm pretty sure will never watch again though Tom Hardy does put in a great performance.

As for the disc itself the picture is hardly any better than the dvd version, and there is nothing really in the extras of note apart from Bronsons audio recording introduction to the film.

Definately a rental only and as a blu ray disc very disappointing but Im sure the movie has its following.

 Bronson Review

Bronson is a film that in theory, should be very boring. It tells the story about Michael Peterson (aka, Bronson), a man imprisoned for holding up a post office but as a result of his appalling behaviour while in prison, has spent many years behind bars, most of those years in solitary confinement.
On the contrary, Bronson is captivating. Director Nicolas Winding Refn has truly delivered a beautiful art-house film.
Surreally stylised cinematography, perfectly used score and excellent cast, realistic acting by theatrical characters.
Tom Hardy as Bronson is a revelation. Amazing acting.
Matt King cannot be overlooked either, he really does shake of his cockny 'super hans' character stereotype (peepshow)

 Tremendous film and lead actor

I watched this film thinking it would be a typical boy type high octane action thriller, but it totally not what i expected! The cinematography is excellent, the way throughout the film "bronson" himself is narrating it, giving you an insight into his life. At some points its almost theatrical, and tom hardy plays a brilliant role. Defo one to watch. My favourite film of this year by far, and i would reccommend it to everyone. Please give it a go!!
