Following the accidental death of her son, Jane Morton, a bereaved psychiatrist from Dublin, is assigned to work on the case of Dorothy Mills, a teenage girl accused of attempted infanticide.

Jane diagnoses that Dorothy has multiple personality disorder, but when Dorothy appears to speak with the voice of Jane's dead son, events take a dark and sinister turn.

The first thing that comes to mind with this film is how fantastic a part jenn murray plays, for a debut her performance is surprisingly brilliant. The story goes that dorothy is found physically abusing a baby and psyciatrist jane morton is called in to work on the case of dorothy mills, but jane is overcoming her son's death so is still fighting demons herself. It soon becomes clear that dorothy is deeply disturbed and has several personalities, but why did she abuse the baby? This film bravely tackles many dark subjects such as multiple personality disorder, death, rape and violance, which it does brilliantly. The film soon had me hooked and though it could be seen as a little ambiguous,i just can't help but praise it,at the price it's going for, you'd be daft not to give this hidden gem a go.
What is with the out of control teens in their car that ran jane of the road, what is dorothy's problem, who are these people dorothy becomes, what are the strange folk hiding? To find out,see this brilliant puzzle of a movie put itself together, you'd be dotty not to.

This film has a good storyine, but a tight budget. The actors give performances 8-9/10. This is due to lack of experience not commitment which is not lacking. The direction and soundtrack are weak and at times the progress is a litle lacking. This is a film that should have been a closet classic but I would sacrifice that to see a Hollywood remake. And I hate Hollywood remakes !!!!! Sometimes a good story comes along and the team that delivers it to film are not strong enough or have the money to back them. In closing I enjoyed this film, I pat the actors on the back and the settings are devine. Shame that all the factors that make or break a film did not all fall on the side of favour. Maybe one day a classic dying to be reborn.

Great movie if you don't expect a pea soup vomiting demon

It bothers me when movies are mis-marketed. I understand why they do it but it's misleading and annoying. Many movies that don't quite fit a genre are shoehorned into one.

As was the case with 'The Hole' (2001), 'Dorothy Mills' is more of a psychological thriller marketed as pure horror. The quote on the cover, "A contemporary take on the Exorcist", the tag line 'Evil chose her" and the typical horror imagery would have one renting this with hopes of hiding behind a cushion from a pea soup vomiting demon. Probably achieves more rentals/purchases but it also inevitably disappoints many, but not in my case.

In reality this is not really about 'evil'. It's a chilling and intriguing tale that deals with the multiple personalities of a girl called Dorothy Mills and/or the dead speaking through her. Set in Ireland, Dublin based psychiatrist Jane Van Dopp travels to a small island where the troubled girl lives. Whilst working on the case she begins to suspect the multiple personalities are more than just figments of Dorothy's imagination.

It's not entirely original but a very interesting plot regardless. The strongest aspect of the movie is Dorothy's various characters: the transformations being startling! Furthermore,Jenn Murray, the actress who plays them, is absolutely brilliant and it's difficult to believe this is her first role.

I feel this movie is deserving of some decent exposure; I'm just not sure misleading marketing is the right way to go about it.
