Based on a true story, The Possession is the terrifying tale of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil.

Clyde and Stephanie Brenek see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter, Em, becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box. But as Em's behaviour becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst. They discover that the box was built to contain a Dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host. Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).
Directed by Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch) and produced by horror master Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Drag Me To Hell, The Evil Dead).

 Another exorcism movie?

| | See all awesomecity's reviews (987)

Apart from the Exorcist, every film about this topic is exactly the same. There is no new, cutting-edge way of battling demonic possession so why make the same movie again and again? As a viewer we crave new ways of terrifying ourselves, but this is not one of those ways. It's not the worst but its still pretty bad.

 Great horror

Just watched this and thought it was a pretty good horror film. Not out and out scary like 'drag me to hell' but most enjoyable. The leading girl was very good as was jeffrey dean morgan. Good story, kept me on my toes for the full 90 mins. Occasional jumpy part, but not too many. It is a different take on the demons/possession genre. Recommend.

a box that should never be opened is purchased at a sale by 'clyde' at the request of 10-year old daughter 'emily' ( em )
unbeknown to them....evil has been trapped within the box.
'em' becomes obsessed by it's mystery, gradually what is trapped inside the box begins to take over young 'emily'
'clyde' desperatly seeks help to save his daughter.
the film has it's eerie moments with a certain ammount of tension.
i'm not sure however we'll ever see a film of this type equall to the intensity of the 1973 classic 'the exorcist'
'the possession' is however better than many efforts made since the classic's release.
