30 Days Of Night is based on the comic book miniseries, by Steve Niles, of the same name and features Josh Hartnett and Melissa George.

In a sleepy, secluded Alaska town called Barrow, the sun sets and doesn't rise for over thirty consecutive days and nights. From the darkness, across the frozen wasteland, an evil will come that will bring the residents of Barrow to their knees. The only hope for the town is the Sheriff and Deputy, a husband and wife who are torn between their own survival and saving the town they love.

Slade's movie actually improves on the cinema release with the blu-ray format. The visuals are beautifully drawn so that we are in a living, breathing, graphic novel. This adds to the urelenting grip of sheer terror Slade conjures up when the vampires finally descend on the unsuspecting population of Barrow.
There truly is no hope, no escape, and no reasoning when they attack. In fact 30 Days of Night is more akin to Schindlers List or The Pianist than to other horror films-and all the more frightening for it. The lead vampire even invokes some of the language of the Final Solution when he refers to humanity as a "plague" before brutally killing another victim. The overhead tracking shot peering down on the slaughter is reminiscent of the clearing of the ghetto in Schindlers List, the hiding in the attic evokes Anne Frank evading the S.S.
The vampires are so lethal, so uncompromising, that Slade has upped the game for any vampire film that comes after 30 Days. There isn't much humour and no character is safe from their evil. They could even be the dead souls of S.S. extermination squads; their language seems faintly Germanic and they make use of human traitors to undermine their victims. Whatever they are they will stay in your memory for some time to come.

 A brilliant dark comic!!

This is a great Vampire movie. Probably one of the best ones I have ever seen. The directing and acting is superb.
Danny Huston is a fantasic and scary Vampire. His performance delivers and you won't be disappointed.
The Blu ray Edition is fantastic with an awesome DTS HD Surround Sound. The extras are no different to the DVD Edition but you do get 30 Images of Night feature and a Graphic Novel to film comparison Photo Gallery which is exclusive to Blu ray.
Well worth a watch and buy!!

 Really enjoyable

Very different to many of the vampire films I have seen in the past. This has a good feel of suspense all of the way through and the vampires are really good. Not your usual stake through the heart, garlic round your neck vampire film but an excellent suspense thriller with some excellent gory scenes 'a la' Saw or Hostel if your into that sort of thing.
Try it, you wont be dissapointed

Thoroughly enjoyed this sleeper hit, which totally missed my attention when it was released in the cinema. And it's actually all the better for it! It was a pleasant surprise to see another take on the vampire theme, with the town of Barrow in Alaska being devoured in a month of total darkness.

Strangely reminded me of John Carpenter's "The Thing" in parts, with it's icy isolated and paranoid atmosphere, er, but with vampires instead of a shape shifting alien!
Surprisingly brutal in parts, a vampire torture of a hapless couple in particular still gives me the creeps, and also the first film of a planned trilogy I believe. The graphic novel spawned two sequels. Can't wait!
