sumptuous Audio and thrilling Cinematic visuals

Picture Quality 10/10 light graining in dark scenes
Audio sound 10/10
Cinematography is superb and visually beautiful
Soundtrack is unforgettable and haunting
Overall a very good digital transfer from 35mm print

Not Being an Ang Lee fan, I was originally apprehensive going to the cinema to watch this back in 2000 and surprised to find I enjoyed it (went twice) !

The lost Wu Shu fighting skill of semi levitating (around 78 AD) is rein-acted using wire work by Wu-Ping Yuen,

 Didn't get a steelbook version

The title says, that this should be a steelbook version, but I got it in an amaray case. Play.com should fix the title. Very disappointing.

 PQ more like 8/10

10/10 for picture quality from previous reviewer is somewhat enthusiastic. I backed to back this with the DVD (upscaled) and there is certainly an improvement from the DVD.
However, I'd give PQ more around 8/10 mark, as its quite soft compared to movies like Kung Fu Hustle or Stranger Than Fiction

 Poor for blu-ray

I thought this film would be amazing on blu-ray but I was very dissapointed. The picture quality is hardly any different to DVD in my opinion. The film is awesome but in terms of PQ I feel I can only give this a 6/10. Audio is top notch but if you were to use this disc to show off your system people would laugh and say you wasted your money.

 A great leap for Lee

Gorgeous Chinese wuxia epic, a tale of flying swordsmen, martial arts and unrequited love. It is a broad canvas that requires a lot of attention but Lee makes it seem so simple and seductive, with lovely performances from the ladies, exhilarating and rather beautiful action sequences, ravishing photography and a swooningly melancholic and romantic score by Tan Dun.
