Once upon a time, or maybe twice, there was an unearthly paradise called Pepperland; a place where happiness and music reigned supreme. But all that was threatened when the terrible Blue Meanies declared war and sent in their army led by a menacing Flying Glove to destroy all that was good. Enter, John, Paul, George and Ringo to save the day! Armed with little more than their humour, songs, and of course, their yellow submarine, the Fab Four tackle the rough seas ahead in an effort to bring down the evil forces of bluedom.

The most satisfying Beatles movie by virtue of the fact they're not in it; save for a cameo at the end, the voices are provided by actors so you're not constantly being drawn out of the narrative by wooden acting.

Musically it's a mixed bag; there are a few classics, but the new songs written for the movie are nothing special.

It's very much a product of the 60s, but the animation is serviceable, and the plot allows for plenty of interesting visuals, songs and one-liners. If you're a Beatles fan or are looking for a kid's film that's a little different to Disney fare, then this is definitely worth a look.

The blu ray add a more vibrant picture and sharper sound to a much loved animation classic that really adds an extra layer to the inventiveness of the film. The Blu Ray release differs from the previous DVD release as it lacks the music only track but includes lots more promotional extras such as posters and stills included in the blu ray packaging. Having owned the previous dvd this is a great improvement on the print and looks fabulous on all HD televisions the only major gripe is the cardboard packaging that gets tatty quick - a steelbook would have been amazing but would really liked the plastic case to keep this classic movie protected (thats why it has not been given five stars).
