In 1981, with Under Pressure topping the charts in the UK, Queen arrived in Montreal following dates in Japan and their record-breaking tour of Latin America. It was to be the only concert by Queen that was ever shot on 35mm film. Always a great live band, with arguably the greatest frontman of all time in Freddie Mercury, they excelled themselves with the cameras rolling.

 As good as it gets

The main reason I bought this disc is for the music by Queen and the fact that I never got to see them live, so I really wanted to see them in high definition - Wow - this is as close to seeing what Freddie Mercury and the rest of the band looked like in their prime as it can gets.

The concert itself is very good bearing in mind that it is all pre Hot Space. The video quality is fantastic considering that it was filmed in 1981 so it is over 26 years old by the time they put it onto this Blu-ray disc. They had the foresight to film in 35mm which is great for Blu-ray so you get a nice VC1 encode in 1080p and the picture quality is so good that you can even clearly read what is on the Microphone that Freddie is using on his piano. Unfortunately all the extras are in standard DVD video mpeg2 which includes the Live Aid performance but it's still ok because you're mainly buying this disc for the music.

As for the sound, you get two to chose from in both the main concert and the extras, both are great - first off you get stereo PCM or you can also have the DTS HD 5.1 96/24bit track. I preferred the DTS HD track for the feel of being there but the PCM has a slightly better sound quality.

Overall this Blu-ray is a must buy for any Queen fan and anyone who is getting into rock and wishes to see what a great rock band looks and sounds like.

 Simply Stunning

Great footage, great sound, the Live-Aid stuff is standard def, but still worthy of inclusion.

If you are a Queen fan, this is an essential purchase.

Much like Metallicas Cunning Stunts was the Music DVD for years. This takes the music Blu Ray title.
Filmed in a widescreen format with hi quality equipment this does show in the end result.
The concert was out for years on VHS as We Will Rock You, that VHS was a shoddy version. This disk has been remasterd to a crisp and blinding quality. All frills and no spills, great sound and picture.
This concert documents the last time the band appear as a four piece band. Extra musicans help from now on.
Amazing restoration on the sound and video make a truely stunning concert. DTS and stereo is offered with the Stereo track showing fantastic results.

i do love queen like most people, and thought id buy this on blue ray ,wow ! this picture blew me away and the sound is so crisp and punchy, considering its from 1981 lots of old tunes ,fantastic!
the only down side is the live aid concert is standard def and looks a bit fluffy . buy it now!

I was really expecting the Picture to be a typical DVD restored picture considering this was filmed in 1981. How wrong was I, I'm a big big Queen fan and what a great pleasure this was to watch Queen in all their glory. The sound is great but the picture is what really blew me away. The black backgrounds where still a little grainy but the crystal clear quality of the band/the instruments/the lighting etc was outstanding. The team who restored it frame by frame are amazing artists in there own right.
